I'm on my third Seiko within nearly 30 years.

They're an excellent value in a watch.

BTW, the first two still run.  I just upgraded.

I had a seiko at one time, it didn't last longer than me (but it was my fault)

timex makes cr@p IMHO. I never have one make it to 6 months!

This is a bizzar thread.

I have an early 60's Omega I got from my Grandfather, still tells perfect time.  That, and the diamond "man ring" I got from him also, will go to my son.  And I don't know what time it is, because my 1 year old son threw away my G-Shock two weeks ago.

I have always loved watches... I have had this idea and I have finally started making strides toward it... I am going to go to school to become a watchmaker... The school I am going to is swiss certified...  This is what I am going to be doing for the rest of my life... I mean it is rare to find something that when you look at it it makes you stop breathing.. But watches , exceptional watches do that for me, And when I found Omega's and found the speedmaster that is what happened, I just stopped... God that watch is awesome...

Awhile ago, I had a timex..it was only like 35 bucks, and the battery died after 3 years :-(

Then I bought a Nike Triax 250 watch which I REALLY love, but the battery has died after only a year!! :-( not even that..     And I have to send it back to nike to get the battery replaced :-/



BTW, that 30 year old Seiko, that isnt on the original battery, is it??

I've never worn out a digital watch.  The band always falls apart after a couple of years and then it's almost as cheap to just buy a new watch. [;)]

I've had one like this since 1992, and the newer version in black since 1999, both of which are perfect for my use:

I've had 5 Seikos over time that I've traded off, all nice watches.  The remaining Seiko is similar to this, only it's gold with a blue face:

Then there's the assortment of Mido, and a couple of others I'd traded off, too.
Nothin' beats a good 'work watch'.  Well, maybe a Rolex...

I'm like Aimless. I buy cheap Walmart/Timex watches. I don't think I pay even $35 for them. Hey I'm really cheap. [:D]

I've had the same Timex Indiglo Adventurer with a white face for a couple of years now.

When one of these die I replace it with something similar. If the band dies or the battery dies then that gets replaced.

My ex bought me a $150 Citizen watch while we were still married and it runs well yet but the back bezel is eroded away enough that it is no longer comfortable to wear. I've never had that problem with the cheap Timex's.

i have a couple of seikos but my favorite
is a citizen eco-drive titanium. solar powered
no winding no batteries.

For watch lovers... If our guns were like the high end watches:

1. They would shoot plus or minus 5 MOA and this would be a excellent one.
2. We'd have to shake or wind it after every 5 rounds.
3. None would be made in the US.
4. We'd brag about their imperfections like the crooked gold-plated barrel because they are hand-made by elves in Switzerland.
5. After lots of trial and error, we'd figure out which position to lay them on the proper side during the night so they would shoot better the next day.
6. The sling would cost 1/3 the price of the rifle.
7. We could buy cheap really-close imitations that shoot better for $5 from some street vendor.
8. An AR15 would weigh 25 lbs because it was made of platinum and only cost $8000.
9. We could proudly carry them around and liberal sheeple would envy us our coolness and fortune, rather than label us gun nuts.
10. The internals would be comprised of 200 pieces that were beautiful to look at, but only a few wise old men who spent years as apprentices before becoming masters could fix.
11. Walmart would sell cheap plastic clones that shot just as good or better for 10,000 rounds and then we'd buy another rather than fix and cost about $50

What's funny about high-end watches for those who like them are that we buy into the crap about craftmanship. Don't get me wrong as I like high-end watches. I actually lust after a IWC Mark XV.

Since I can't afford the high-end that I want, I settled for a sold only in Japan version only Titanium Citizen Eco-Drive with Saphire crystal, anti-magnetic to 16000 gauss, and water proof to way deeper than I'll ever go. I'm partial to military style watches in 38-40mm size.

For some reason I realize that the mechanical high-end watches are neither as robust or accurate or waterproof as mid and lower end, like my Citizen, but I still want them. Those Omega Speedmasters are nice, but they are too big.

High-end watches (non-rolex or cartier), like guns, are pretty much guy things. Give a lady a $3000 IWC versus an equivilent cost diamond bracelet and see which gets you more sack time.  [SEX]

I switch between a Xemex offroad and a Gevril 18kt and SS automatic chronograph.

I would love a Chronoswiss Lunar or Opus. Or perhaps a Breitling.

Two of my surviving Seiko's from the early 80's.  I have four Seiko's and they all still run!  The digital one's battery ran out a month ago.  Some of you might recognize the style of the digital watch from Octopussy.  There were a few different Octopussy models, and this is one of them.  I've done some research on the chrono and it's quite desirable among Seiko fanatics.

I'm wearing a 1982 Rolex Datejust. I bought it new. Is a 2 tone, gold/stainless selfwinding mechanical watch. I have worn it every day for almost 20 years land or sea. Its been a great watch, and something of a conversation piece.

If you are thinking about owning one these you need to know that, being a mechanical watch, they require servicing (clean/lube) every 10 years or so.
