We all know the M1 Garand has the best stock sights. What is the worst sight arrangement you have ever seen, and why?
My vote would be the French MAS-36. Rear peep sight is too thick, and huge FSB obscures a huge amount of the target zone. |

PAKI-MADE –––– NO SIGTS NEED, ALLAH GUIDES THE BULLETS
I probably saw the worse sights in a Battle of Monroevia picture |
|
Although I love my FALs, I'd put them near the top of the list. Having the front and rear sights mounted on separate receivers is the biggest "con" on that rifle, IMO. Luckily, it has enough "pros" to keep it in my Top 5 battle rifle category.

mini -14 ranch rifle, dumb blade sight up front and a flimsy peep flip up in the rear.
|
|
Mosins can be pretty bad. I have an M44 where the rear sight notch is shaped like
___ ___ | / / / \/ and the front site is round with a slight off center point Can't hit shit with it |

The ones at the carnie booth where you have to shoot the star out of the paper to win a prize.

K98k Mauser. Rear V notch and inverted V front post. What Tex said, worst sights period! |
|
Quoted: K98k Mauser. Rear V notch and inverted V front post. Yep. I can barely focus on a K98 front sight. |

AK and K98 Sorry guys. Not even close. The Springfield 1903, and the various U.S. Krags, have the worst. Tiny, thin front blades with the thinnest of notches. And then you can flip them up to use the tiniest of peep sights way out there ahead of the chamber. |
|
I think the K98 had awesome iron sights. Fuckin' batshit crazies up in myaw!
|
|
V Enfield sights (pre-ring & post) are hilariously near invisible. They're accurate, but finding them adds about 3 minutes to the time per shot.

The AK doesn't have the worst rifle sights because it isn't really the tool of a rifleman. It's a glorified SMG.
I'm going with the CETME. It has the accuracy, power, and sight radius of an excellent rifle, but the adjustment being restricted to an off-center front sight post makes it difficult to sight in and sometimes impossible because the wobble only gives 6moa on each side and often the elevation adjustment is on the wrong spot when you get the windage right. |
|
My first impulse would be to say the AK-47 but then I remembered my Winchester 73 which I have not fired in many years. It is a family heirloom to be passed down and the 38 WCF aka 38-40 ammo is expensive and hard to come by. They front sight is a small post and the rear sight is more or less U shaped. I never figured out what the sight picture is supposed to be. Maybe just me because the last time we took it out a friend got tired of shooting bullseyes and took out all four clothes pins holding the target without a miss.

Like many others have said, the AK and K98 are it. For pistols, it's the original M1911.

M3A1 grease gun.
Front sight is part of the receiver stamping and the rear, well, they weld on a tab and drill a hole. There is no aiming that thing, just point and shoot. |

The AK's get the nod here.
Often canted and function poorly even when they are aligned properly and zero'd in. Mausers, Mosins and most of that Euro shit is sub-par, too. American's win at teh iron sights. |
|
Bushmaster M17. The irons are very rudimentary, an optic is intended to be the primary sight.

Schmidt and Rubin K31.
Maybe it's my old eyes, but damn, that rear notch sight is one SOB to line up with the front, it seems like you need a cheek weld up around your eyes. |
|
Any rifle whose sights don't set lower then 200 meters, it doesn't matter if they are the best sights in the world, if you can't aim at a target at 100 yards then they suck.
