Seriously, I've handled and shot a good number of different rifles, and I gotta say, looking through my M1s sight, these are the best damned sights I've even seen on a gun. They're perfect.

I am no expert but I do like the AR irons and find I shoot well using them.
Link Posted: 11/19/2011 12:47:52 PM EDT
I have a Williams 1/16" firesight up front and a Williams FP with a variety of apertures for my Marlin 1895.

Of all my non-scoped rifles, that's my favorite setup.

And you'd be right.

M1/M14 gets my vote.
Link Posted: 11/19/2011 12:49:41 PM EDT
I agree. The M1 Garand has the best iron sights I have ever used on a rifle.
Link Posted: 11/19/2011 12:50:15 PM EDT
I like the AR's best. Garand would be runner-up. YMMV.
Link Posted: 11/19/2011 12:53:05 PM EDT
1903a3 with the NM setup.
Link Posted: 11/19/2011 12:54:26 PM EDT
Find a nice BPCR if you want to see some really good irons.
Link Posted: 11/19/2011 12:58:57 PM EDT
A2 sights. easily adjustable
Link Posted: 11/19/2011 1:04:11 PM EDT
M1A has the best I've seen, a fair bit better than my Garand but I understand there are different mfgs. of front sights for them.

Call me crazy but I think I actually prefer M16A1 sights to A2 sights, as far as sight picture goes. First time I ever qualified was with an A1, 36/40

Are they similar to HK MP5/G3 style sights? If so, I like those as well. I think I like them more than the A1 style sights for the AR.

Whichever has a peep sight. The exception is the Cetme, which does have a peep, but the adjustment is the wobbly front post. That is just messed up.
Link Posted: 11/19/2011 1:12:28 PM EDT
NM on my M1a are pretty damn accurate.

In bright sun the hooded rear is an nice touch.
Link Posted: 11/19/2011 1:13:02 PM EDT
My match rifle AR-15 has some very good ones (for shooting round bull targets). Look up Right-sight and PNW for front and rear respectively. The rear has a Gehmann adjustable aperture.

Oh, I have used this sight and ones like it for shooting critter shaped targets as well.

I would say the M1 Garand for sure. I believe Jesus guided the hand of John Garand when the design was being put on paper.

Diopter sight pwns all

M1 Garand. Best rifle and sights - the rifle is the better shot than the person.

in this order:
A2
M1/ M1A
No4 MkI Lee Enfield
FAL
CZ 452 Training rifle/ Lux sights

I'm googling right-sight and PNW but my results have been worthless. Got anymore info?

Remington Rangemaster M37 with parker-hale adjustable diopter and globe sights. blow me

Without getting fancy, M1 Garand and the standard A2 sights are pretty useful and precise

I can't say that they were the best; but I was always partial to the sights on my old 03-A3.

They ARE good, but I'd prefer the peephole to be a bit smaller in size.

Nat'l Match M1 sights are tough to beat. NM A2 sights are a close second.

A1 sights for combat are pretty damn good.
but the M1/M14 sights are awesome for target shooting.

HK sights suck.
there, I said it.

they are proprietary, but I believe SiG sells a version for Picatiny

notice the 300+ sight has a diopter screw on.. remove it and you get a much larger aperture, similar to A2 sights.

They block a lot less field of view, field sights are the best because they aren't adjustable by hand, and hoods (diopters) cause you to shoot to the center of the circle regardless of the zero you've established with the post.
Link Posted: 11/19/2011 2:36:50 PM EDT
Express(not the company) sights are pretty damn fast. Wouldn't wanna shoot a rifle match with one though.
