There are lots out there. What's the most highly recommended? Do people still believe the NRA is interested in 2nd Amendment rights?

Although the NRA is probably the most recognized gun rights group out there, I still like 2nd Amendment Foundation.  They are very vocal, and willing to go to court in a heartbeat on an issue.

Depending on your state, there are very effective state-level organizations out there.

"All of the above" if you can afford it.

ETA, I'm a life member of the NRA and Gun Owners of America.  I'm a regular member of the Second Amendment Foundation and the Washington Rifle and Pistol Association.

At the minimum I think you should join a local state organization (if you have a good one) and the NRA, in that order.

I consider any gun owner who is NOT a member of the NRA to be an enemy combatant.

If you only have the money to join one, the NRA

I don't see how the cost of annual membership covers the cost of postage, magazines and other crap they send but at least you add to the numbers
