The Butcher Bird for me. I had one relative that flew them (an A6), and one that worked on them. It was a true fighter-bomber, and stayed competetive right up to the end. Kurt Tank had some great designs, but the FW 190 is one of the greatest ever.

1974 Cessna 172
First plane I ever flew (at the age of 14 no less!) Pilot let me pretty much do everything except the landing.

On my "Love to eventually own and might someday be able to actually afford" list:
Beech B-58 Baron
Beech V-Tail Bonanza
Piper Seneca III, IV or V
Cessna Caravan
Piper SuperCub

(I'm a sucker for swing wings)
F16 (Thats right, I like the lawn dart)

Modern Bomber?
B1B (again, swing wings)
B52 (sheer fucking size)

Classic ColdWar (korea / vietnam...50s - 70s)?

Spitfire, no doubt about it. Specifically, the MkXVI. The most graceful WWII bird ever, and quite a nimble air-to-air dogfighter too.

Lots of military stuff is neat-o, but of the types of planes I've flown myself, it'd have to be this one :

The Piper PA-30 Twin Comanche. It's efficient, it's cheap to feed, it carries enough stuff, and it's just plain fun to fly.

I might change my mind if anyone wants to take me up in a two-holer F-15 or F-16 though .

I don't have one single favorite....

WWII fighter (Atlantic): P51D Mustang, Supermarine Spitfire
WWII fighter (Pacific): Vought F4U Corsair
WWII heavy bomber: B17 Fortress
WWII medium bomber: B25 Mitchell (grandfather fixed those during the war)

Vietnam era: F4 Phantom II (dad flew those bad boys)

Modern: F15E Strike Eagle (dad almost got to fly those)

Helo: Hughes 500MD

About 1993, after their admittedly rather dismal performance in the Gulf War.

AFAIK, the only OV-10’s in current use by the U.S. government are used for spraying drug crops in South America. There are also a very small number maintained by a couple of states for fighting forest fires.

Apparently the large cargo area in the back of the fuselage is great for storing water or herbicide tanks.

Sadly, I believe a prototype OV-10 that was being restored to flying condition by a museum was just destroyed in a hanger fire!!

RF101C and the F106A. I was an instrument mechanic on both in the early '60's

P51 without a doubt, I would love to ride in one someday.

Since I spent 8 years busting my knuckles working on them, I have a certain phondness phor Phantoms. The pic below was taken at MCAS Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii while I was attached to VMFA-235.

RADAR Techs do it with frequency...

Martin XB-51. My great uncle was part of the Martin design team. The planned armament was eight 20mm cannon in the nose and 10,000 lbs. of bombs.

There ain't but two kinds of planes in the world. Fighters and TARGETS! That is a very nice target you have there.

F15 Eagle. As a kid, I would have given my left nut to fly one.

I don't have a single favorite, but lean towards 1930's & 40's types:

Monocoupe 110 Special
Laird-Turner Meteor
Bucker Jungmeister

Did I neglect to mention that I'm a round motor freak?

Big ass air cooled radial engine and 8 50's, it doesn't get much better than that.

My favorite has always been the A-6 Intruder. She looks like a fat bitch, but at least she's got curves :P Close second is the V-22 Osprey.
