Optimism died in the late 90s, 9/11 was the anchor shot. We still haven’t recovered two decades later. I can almost smell the new roaring 20s but I can’t see them. But I’m sure there’s a shining city on a hill somewhere.

The used car market. You could find a nice 67-72 Chevy truck even 4wd for under $2500. square bodies considerably less small block chargers, challengers, chevelles, gen 1 & 2 camaros, mustangs, impalas were all findable still in good condition for under $2k common stuff like Novas and Malibus were $500 beginner cars less for a 4 door ..

I miss being able to show up in Zion NP with no planning, throwing back a bottle of Jack, and jumping onto a three day long rock climb.
Showing up at RMNP at 9am on Saturday of a 4th of July weekend, pulling into an open parking space at the Longs Peak trailhead, having an extra, uncontested, open space next to us, racking gear in the open parking space, the rangers filling out our bivi tags as we racked gear, and even being so kind as to open our beer for us because we had our hands full. |

I didn't want to go there, because it tends to get dusty in here when I do, but in the 1990's my dad and I started to finally get along.
He was a tyrant during my childhood. He improved somewhat during my high school and college years. He took my brother and I to see Red Dawn. When I started to become a prepper and patriot after the LA riots and the Randy Weaver incident, I think for the first time he started to respect me. Waco cinched it. Had it not been for that I might have hated him to his grave like my brother did. |

I was only a kid, but 90's music was the best.
My grandparents and my dad were alive (and my dad and I still had a good relationship). We spent a week or two every summer in California at my grandparent's house. My dad took my brother and I fishing almost every weekend in an old junky bayliner. Deer and antelope hunting in the fall. My dad and I stayed up late and watched Braveheart probably 2 times a week when it came out (when I was a little older). My life is really good now, but there are things I miss. |
