Heck, you probably didn't take drivers' ed at school.
Do you know what hand signals I am talking about? And it is not shooting the bird. |

Maybe for 10 seconds in a video. Promptly forgotten by everyone.

Personally, I stopped using them when I lost my Studebaker in the divorce. If you used them today, no one would know why you had your hand stuck out the car window.

Fuck I don't even think most people were taught to use turn signals. Ye gods, this x1000 I wasn't taught them in driver's ed but picked them up from driving shit that didn't have (functioning) turn signals. My buddy has a sticker on the back of his van "Horn broken: Watch for finger" |

Whenever I make a right hand signal, half the people look at me confused and the other half wave back.

I took drivers ed and have never heard of using hand signals. Care to elaborate?
|
|
Yes.
Except today, the "hand signals" I use are generally not the ones they taught us. |
|
They probably weren't paying attention. Like you when they went over the word "whipper" in spelling.

Geez, it was so long ago I don't remember, summer of '76. But I think so. I certainly knew them from bicycle riding.

I have these nifty things that blink in the direction I'm turning.

Quoted: I was taught hand signals in drivers-ed at age 14, but I already knew them because grandpa taught me when I was 12. Had to use them for a few days when the signals on the buggy stopped working (age 12). I grew up in such an awesome time. Got my liscense last year. Hand signals are still part of the driving test in MA

Every kid in my era knew his hand signals from bicycle riding.

I went so fast at times that I was sometimes able to keep up with traffic. I surely needed two hands to slow down. |
|
Yes. It was, I think, around 1971.
Neither of my kids (the two who took driver's ed) learned them. |
|
I learned them in drivers ed (6 years ago). Or atleast knew of them by then dont remember.
|
|
IIRC there was a quick blurb about hand signals in the booklet that we got for the class, but they weren't actually taught.

I was taught them in DE and as I remember, way back when, you had to use them during the road test to get your license. |

These days I'd be afraid some young popo would pull me over for doing something dangerous' by extending my arm out the window.

All you old people are funny, thinking other drivers give a shit about what you're fixin' to do.

No, because I drive a car with those newfangled electric turn signals.

Reminds me of a conversation me and my Grandpa had when I was diving his golf cart in palm springs.
[Gramps] You know hand signals right? [Me] Ya we learned them in drivers ed. Never really thought id have to use them though. [Gramps] You know when I first learned how to drive electric turn signal weren't around so we had to use them. [Me] Christ you old. [Gramps] Your just figuring this out? Kinda slow aren't you? Haha it was a good day |

Stupid question, if you have functioning turn signals on your car, and opt to use hand signals instead of the blinkers, can you be pulled over?
