Who here bought weapons before the ban, who bought them because of the ban, and so on? If it were not for the ban, I would still shoot only shotguns and deer guns. I got my first gun when I was 12, that was 1998. Four years later I had a preban Colt. I had to get preban, just because they were extra evil.

I bought my first on in 2000 just because John Lockyer was being an asshole about them.
I wrote him a letter and told him he was personally responsible for me buying it. AND I DON'T LIVE in CALI EITHER!

Had both a Colt R6550k (my first AR15) and an R6601 in 1994. Still have them, and the collection has grown to include two R6830s and an MT6731, too.

I was in the Marines in 94 but always wanted an HK-91 since the 5th grade.  Since the HK's were "unobtainium" even then,  I ordered a Glock 19 and all the Hi-caps I could get.

BTW,  I ordered the Glock from my Grandfather who had an FFL that he ended up losing to the ATF during the Clinton crusade against FFL dealers.

PS.  how do I get an avatar on my posts?  sorry for the newbie question, but I joined the site today,  but have always supported the 2nd amendment any way possible.

Bought my first firearm, a Ruger 10/22 in 1996 when I was in college (hey, what do you expect from a product of NJ).  My first "AW" was purchased in 2000, a DPMS carbine.

The 94 ban gave me a reason to get a 2nd job and save up to build my first gun...ever. I had wanted one for some time, but was going through school and just did not seem to ever have the cash. I bought a stripped PWA lower and a parts kit from some suplier.

I had to sell it during a spell of bad luck

I was only 17 at the time (1994), but I still managed a pretty decent collection for a high school kid aspiring to be a gun nut. I had a MAK-90, a Mini-14, an M1 Carbine and a 10/22 with some hi-caps. I still have all of them but the Mini. It was replaced by a stainless Ranch rifle that gets tossed into the trunk of the car often or used for other rough assignments. Other than those, I had nothing really along those lines. My dad had given me a couple of nice shotguns and a Remington 700 30-06 rifle, as well as S&W Model 66 .357 revolver that was my home defense weapon of choice in those days. What's funny, the MAK-90 was never anything more than a recreational rifle to me. It would be hard to say how many boxes of Norinco ammo I put through it and the Mini.

I bought my Colt Pre-Ban with my first paycheck out of college (1991).   I didn't even have enough money to pay my rent that first month, but I don't regret it.  I was always awed the SPR's and still love them today.

Little did I know what my collection would turn into all these years down the road.  It's been a fun ride and there are still lots of items to collect and shoot!

Yes. I had a Colt AR Sporter Lightweight (now my M4gery), a Polytech AK underfolder (still have it), a Mini-14 and Mini-30 (both gone), and a 10/22 (still have it).

I also had a Browning BDM and a Beretta 92FS which I will be greedily picking up magazines for....

I had a Marlin Model 60 .22LR......and yep, it was an assault rifle alright. Tube magazine held 18 devastating rounds of high power cop killer .22LR ammo....I mean, this was the ammo of choice by John Hinkley Jr when attempting to assasinate Reagan....that model 60 was a serious threat to the children of the community....I'll bet they are stacking up on the streets now.....let me check...hmmm, I dont see any....

Owned about a half-dozen or so. Was living in CA for a couple of years, and after the ban went into effect sold them all for the silly money people were offering ($1800-$2400 in '94 dollars). When I moved out of CA in 95 I bought a few more here in PA; still have those.

I never had any particular interest in black rifles until the government told me I couldn't have them.  I bought an Oly and to Bushies just before the ban went into effect.  And then a bunch of ARs, AKs, FALs, HK clones, etc. over the years.

In 1984 I was turned on to Gun Shows and found out how easy it was to own a rifle (AR-15) similar to the M-16 I had when I was in the military in'79, a rifle that I really learned to like.  I bought several over the years and when the talk of the Brady law and the "AWB " legislation began to filter down I started buying up a few extrs peices. The way it seemed back then was that it might be real hard to procure said items later on down the road.....
