So the wife and I went to zoo today.

It was hot. Really hot. Couldn't see many animals. They were all in the darkest shade they could find.

Most of the pics were shot at 200mm, (should have brought the 300mm) aperture priority, f/2.8. I jacked the ISO up on a few. All of these pics are brighter than they appeared to the eye.

some kind of crane

Cheetas. There are babies in there somewhere

This was actually a free-ranging bird:

waited 15 mis for him to lift his head:

National Zoo in Washington? I've never been there despite the many trips to Washington, D. C. that I've had.

I used to fu... ah, I mean date, a girl that lived in Adams Morgan. The lions would roar every morning and wake us up. Kinda freaky for the middle of a city.

Cool pics. Thanks !

The best thing about the national zoo is that it's one of the very few FREE zoos still left. One of the others is in St. Louis - which is also an awesome zoo.

If you saw a Mexican Gray Wolf, you should let someone know.....they're extinct in the wild.

Me too. I know we need some zoos for educational purposes but I don't think every single large city needs one. I hate to see a caged animal pace back and forth.

On the other hand, let me clarify the fact I have probably killed a zoo full of stuff in my life, without regrets. I just hate to see them caged.
