Both of my parents grew up around guns and shot as kids but didn't own them as adults. During the 90's my mother especially bought into the gun grabber's scare stories and felt that no one but hunters really needed guns anymore. Recently I was visiting and they brought up that maybe it would be a good idea to keep one around the house for protection and what did I think about that. After talking with them, I ended up giving them an M&P that's been a safe queen for the last few years.

Today, I took my dad to the range and taught him how to operate it since he really wasn't familiar with striker fired pistols. I worked with him on trigger discipline which was a problem at first, and he was making good consistent hits at 7 yards right off the bat.

Damn good day

Took my dad shooting this year for Father's Day. First time we ever shot handguns together. All shooting prior was clay pigeons and birds.

I also rented the Sig MPX, so his first rifle experience was a full auto SBR. He shot a few round semi, then flipped the happy switch.

His reaction,
