This was in the Houston area. I wish I had more time so I could have tried to meet some of you guys down there. I was at a family reunion for 5 days, and got away a couple times to see some attractions nearby. Overall it was really fun, and my wife wants to move! Sheesh.

Anyway, things I noticed in Texas:
- Freeway road signs suck! For some reason the sign for the turnoff I want is always after the turnoff, so just when I can read the sign I know what exit I just missed.
- People drive pretty fast, with few dumbasses on the road (that I could see!)
- I was amazed at the amount of American flags flying all over
- The road system is seriously, seriously wierd but I can see it being pretty efficient once you get used to it.

My father and I had a similar impression of Texas after Gunstock 1.

Being from texas and living in CA (But Im coming home! BCT @ Ft. Bliss in a month and a half) Ive noticed two things:

A) California Sucks.

B) Roads are SOOOOOOO much nicer in TX. They can actually make a freeway that doesnt feel like a rollercoaster ride.

When Im done with Army, wether that be in 20 years, or in 5, I plan on settling down up in Amarillo. I love it up there. I was born in Dallas.

In Houston you have to get used to bridges to drive on the interstate.

I hate bridges

Glad you enjoyed it. Try Austin, San Antonio and Dallas sometime too. Or get out to San Marcos, Fredricksburg, etc. I think most Texans would agree that Houston is the arm pit of the state.

Exactly if you liked Houston you will love the other 97% of Texas.

God lives in Texas. He just visits other places. We believe in women with big hair, big racks, big smiles, and big hearts. I've turned down job offers outside of Texas, because not living in Texas simply wouldn't be living.

Glad y'all had a good time.

I will be in San Antonio for a small claims in November. WTF...a jury trial for a small claims case?

I have been to Texas many times and I have enjoyed every trip...now if I can only make it to Gunstock next year.

Visit Dallas for the REALLY messed up freeway signs.

Stand by and someone who doesn't live here will tell you how bad Texas sucks. It won't be me.

Houston is like our Siberia. It's a form of exile and punishment.

Austin is fun in a liberal, socialist, tree hugging, NPR listening, Volkswagon Beetle driving sort of way.

Dallas is great.

Well if Houston is the arm pit, I think El Paso is the other one. Much prefer Austin, DF or San Antonio to either armpit.

Most definitely a beautiful area. Especially around Palo Duro Canyon.

Laugh it up while you can, scooterboy. We'll annex your ass eventually.

Houston, the Borg of Texas.

I’ve been to Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Houston, El Paso and San Antonio while I was stationed at Fort Hood.

Dallas was without question my favorite city.
Houston my least favorite.
