Just ran some 40's... ran a 4.62 as my best, 4.78 was my worst.  According to the Nike Football website, Urlacher runs a 4.7... meaning I'm faster!!!!  Now, to add the lacrosse stick and pads into the picture and see if I can blow by defenseman at a similar rate...

By the way... the broken jaw has healed 100% and beware I can't wait until Feburary 25th when Illinois faces off against UTenn in my first game back.

ETA: My goal over winter break is to shave off a solid tenth off that time... I want to be able to catch Mike Vick in a 40 by the time I graduate... he runs a 4.42 which IMO is ungodly.

The trick is running that fast and then crushing someone and getting up and doing it again.  That just amazes me.  Does Vick really run a 4.42?  Wow.

I run a 8.87, when naked and wet heading for shelter. Otherwise, it's about a 10.6.

I haven't compared that to current NFL players.

Randy Moss ran something like a 4.25 or something insane like that at his nfl combine.

Vick a 4.4 40, not bad, but I'll keep my eye on Matt Jones of the Jaguars.  6'6" 230 ran a 4.37 at the combine, and is a freakish athlete able to play QB and wide receiver.  Not bad for a big white guy.

He isn't bad.  But MJ will really be something when he figures out that he can hold the ball with both hands and/or tuck it close to his body and protect the thing instead of running with it "palmed" like a basketball.  That drove me fucking nuts, watching him fumble because of his damned stupidity.  If was a coach, I would bench that SOB every time he did that and it caused a fumble.  Shit, every 12yr old football player knows to protect the damned ball.

Here at Arkansas, he was QB, but played basketball too.

The listed 40 times are mostly BS.

They are stopwatch timed, and given that reaction times are about 4/10th of a second, the times are not going to be that accurate. Then there is the fact that they aren't done under controlled conditions and are often hyped to bump people up in the draft.

The fastes 40 yards in international competition was Ben Johnson's roid enhanced 4.38. Granted it was a 100 M race, so someone who trained excusively for the 40 could maybe do it a bit faster. But like every CB and most of the WRs in the NFL?

That just doesn't compute.

IIRC, Those listed combine times are from a running start, you a given 10 yards to accelerate.

The funny thing is, I'm not an "athlete" in the sense that I don't play NCAA lacrosse.  My school (University of Illinois) does not fund a lacrosse program.  Instead, I played in the USLIA(full of schools in the same boat as we are).  I was offered a few scholarships to play out on the east coast, but I wanted to go into engineering and ended up here.

So if I am 4/10ths slow starting off of the gun and 4/10ths slow at the line isn't that a correct time?

Hell, if you really can't wait, come on down to Miami. Miami Makos LAX Club. We're playing our 7th game of this season tomorrow...(4-2 record,so far, and on top of DI) Gametime 1300 and the temp should be around 82F.  Sorry, I had to throw that in.   Glad to see you healed up fine.   Stay safe

Urlacher's 245 pounds.  What do you weigh in at?

eta: nfl.com has him listed at 258.

Former NU cornerback Fabian Washington-now with the Raiders-ran a 4.27 at the NFL combines...the fastest 40 ever recorded at the combines.

4.35 Cincinnati Reds tryout camp.  Im 45 and can STILL bust off some four sixes/sevens!!!!

There are several linebackers with faster track speed than Urlacher's 4.6X

The Lions have two of them, Boss Bailey and Teddy Lehman.  They are both in the mid-high 230s and run high 4.4s.  Well, Boss has been timed from high 4.3 to 4.5.

But as anyone with eyes can see...track speed and game speed are two different things.  Guys like Urlacher and Ray Lewis can run in traffic and shed blockers to get to the ball, while Boss and Teddy are just 'running around'.

Man I miss LAX...  haven't played since high school.

My fastest 40 time... 4.66 at the age of 18...  Would be funny to see what I run at 31.

Don't know, don't care.  The Falcons just need to wake up before Shaub gets away and becomes another Favre.  The Falcons had Favre for one season.   Vick is not a QB, period.  I don't care how much they pontificate about him not being the normal type of QB, he is not a QB.

I ran a 4.49 on an Accutrak operated by Jack Pardee.  That was about a million years ago, though.

Looked like Urlacher closed on Vick a couple of times last night considerably faster than 4.7.

That's good, but remember one small detail, Brian Urlacher is  6-5 255lb. Add his 40 time to that size & you got a beast on the field.
