So I figured it was about time.  I ordered my first lower this morning.

Bought an Aero Precision stripped lower for $89.95.  Out the door cost of $122.50.  (we have a $25 DROS fee on top of the sales tax)

Time to start looking for the rest of the rifle I want to build.

10,547 posts on arfcom and you've never even shot one?!

That has to be a record somewhere.

Oh good lord. Really?
Well, you should enjoy it. Next thing you know you will want something a bit more powerful like a .308.
Or you may well decide you want another type of AR. But know this, you will want more.

Lotsa good deals to be had now.  I would look first at Bravo Company's uppers (they're $100 off normal price) and then at Armalite's 10-10-10 upper deals.

Who knows, give it a month and maybe Bushmaster will run another Thanksgiving sale.

Strangely, I was expecting an epic profanity-laced diatribe filled with racist comments about the president and insults to particular peaceful religion, sprinkled with personal insults against every mod and staff member.

But hey, congrats on the AR thingy.

The main decision I have to make is do I go with a featureless build so I can use my hi caps or go the bullet button route and be stuck with 10 rounders.

Can't do archery.  Arthritis in my right shoulder won't let me use a bow.

Is there a trebuchettalk?

I bought 7 30 rounders back in '98 when the local shop decided to pull up anchor and leave the state.  Got them, all he had left, for $2.99 each.  I bought a lot of stuff that I had no use for at the time but, what the hell, they were cheap.

I'm really impressed you managed to hold out for 12 years.  I would have bought a rifle a while ago.

Heck, just last month I saw a 10/22 factory mag that someone had thrown away at the range.  They loaded a few rounds backwards and jammed it, so they just chucked it.  I took it hope, took it apart, unjammed it and now I have a perfectly functional 10/22 mag (and 3 free rounds of Remington cheapo .22LR).

The pressure to buy a rifle for it is almost overpowering.

You know the pic with the three really ugly AR's that someone always posts in a California AR thread?  Those are featureless.  Also see MonsterMan grip builds.

Basically, no pistol grip and no flash hider. Oh, and a non collapsible stock.

Just a heads up: Palmetto State Armory lowers are made by Aero Precision and they are $69.99.

And they are a site sponsor as well.

Cheapest transfer for me on those would be $50 plus the $25 DROS fee.  It is cheaper for me to buy from a local source.

California's Dealer Record of Sale.  We get charged by the State to fill out a 4473 and have a background check run.

That's a crying shame. You have to pay the state for the privilege of checking your history? I sure enough am glad I live in a free state. When I buy a firearm here all I do is show my CWP and fill out the form. Takes all of five minutes.

Plus we have a 10 day wait to pick up our firearms from a dealer.  All private party sales must go through a dealer, except for longarms that are over 50 years old, and has a $35 fee for doing that.
