I've looked at quite a few online but didn't get a chance to handle one until yesterday.

OMG

I'm actually considering selling my 870 and a case of ammo to get one
Link Posted: 8/2/2007 8:42:38 AM EDT
what are they that inexpensive

870 and an AR is up for sale so I can buy one of these things, I must've lost my mind
Link Posted: 8/2/2007 1:26:19 PM EDT
I hope that you get one, if you do, you definately need to post a range report. They look intriguing but I have never had the chance to handle one.

Fuck it, get it! One of the stores around here had/has one, and if I weren't saving money for a house, I'd be all over it. ARs are a dime a dozen, and if you have more than one, get something different.

One local store has one for $1399 but they're on gunbroker for $1199 and I've heard that you can even find them cheaper at shows but then you have to pay tax.

Hopefully my stuff will sell soon and I'll have one in a few weeks

I cannot get over the gap between the receiver and the pistol grip.

WTF where they thinking?

I hope you can replace it with an AR pistol grip as the pistol grip they finally decided on does NOT fit flush with the receiver (back of the trigger guard area) at ALL.
Link Posted: 8/2/2007 1:46:39 PM EDT
I just looked a the website and I think i may just have to buy one in the near future.

I cannot get over the fact that for that amount of money it doesn't have sights (supposedly they sell some with sights, but they look like shit to me), the crappy stocks, and the ones I've seen look like shit.

But hey, its your money.

I was gonna get a SIG, then I checked on out at Shot Show and I was still "sorta" planning to get one, and then I saw this...

I playued with a SIG 556 and it definantly handles real well, it just feels good.

I just cannot get over the lack of a FS for it

So...........what's so special about them to justify the price over an AR?

Trigger is different and most people, including me, really like it. It has a gas piston system instead of DI like an AR. It has the ability to have a folding stock.

Things that may not be of interest to the casual AR owner. But if you want a gas piston system, the GP AR's are no cheaper than the Sig 556..in fact they are frequently more expencive.

Which is why I'm buying a 556 over a GP AR15, plus I wanted something diffrent than an AR and that I wouldn't have to buy more mags or add another caliber for.

a local law enforcement officer let me handle his.

nice but care and feeding of ar is easier.

ar just comes apart quicker and is easier to clean.

That XCR is mean looking, I like it. The 556 looks too much like a toy.

I'm holding out for a Masada...

No really, I am.
Link Posted: 8/4/2007 11:41:59 AM EDT
The new 556s have new pistol grips, which make up for the gap between the pistol grip and trigger guard. An enhances Magpul trigger guard does the same thing, and looks better, IMHO (get both!)

551 handguards are available from Sig, and are a direct replacement for the 556 handguards, if desired.

The rest of the platform is nice and simple, and works very well. I was shooting a couple huundred mix and match ammo through it the first time I took it out and it cycled everything perfectly. There is barely any muzzle rise, and cleaning is a snap.

551 style sight systems are coming to the market - I've already got a 551 front sight, just working on the rear now.

Me too. Trying at least.

One of my thoughts at SHOT holding the Masada with the AK mag/paddle release lower (and great folding/telescoping stock, monolithic upper rail, etc) was that the 556 just became irrelevant.

ETA: With that said, I've had a 556 on order through my FFL for several months now. I'm at the point now where I'm just to cancel the order and work on some ARs, at least until next year when the SCAR/Masada debate starts. One positive point is that AR barrels I might spend money on now are still usable with the Masada down the road.

I'll wait for one with the 551/552 type stock.

I finger-fucked one yesterday, and while it was nice, I won't bend over backwards for it.

I saw one of those at the gun show today. Thank God they decided to fix that monumentally stupid oversight.

The 556 is slowly but surely creeping into the "I want" category.

After handling a SIG, I will decide what to get. Can't get both..... too many AR projects right now. Have 3 of them in different stages of completion.

Then there is the Masada. Handled it at the SHOT Show. I want one of those badly. C'mon Magpul.

Masada still not out?

That'll most likely be my next purchase. How accurate are they?
