ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - Authorities say a would-be victim pulled a gun and shot a man who tried to rob him in a restaurant parking lot in St. Petersburg.

St. Petersburg police say the incident happened about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the Applebee's parking lot located on 4th Street North.

Police say Raven Smith and Lesley Tanner were exiting their vehicle to go into the restaurant when 17-year-old Anthony Hauser, wearing a ski mask and armed with a handgun, confronted Tanner.

Smith –– who possesses a concealed weapons permit –– drew his own handgun and fired at the suspect multiple times.

Hauser was struck four times and yelled at Smith to stop shooting. He pulled the mask off his face and claimed the gun he was holding was a "fake."  Investigators later learned Hauser's gun was actually a fully loaded and operational 25 cal. auto.

Dang, I go to Tampa every so often.  I usually carry but my last visit I left it in the car but I'll not make that mistake again.  I am dying to know what he shot him with though.  A bb gun maybe?

You guys are talking some shit, but the good guy plugged the bad guy and the bad guy was begged him to stop.

Maybe he only had a .380 or something, but he won the gun fight.

Emergency trauma care has gotten pretty damn good at patching people up from gunshot wounds. Most people who get shot with a handgun end up surviving these days.

You are aware that the 9mm is actually marginally more powerful than the .38 Special ... Right?

You can handload the .38 to have more spunk (to the tune of a 158 at 1100 FPS from a snub) but I doubt the guy was using handloads or Buffalo Bore.

If I were the Governor of Florida I would write a personal thank you note to the Brady Campaign for putting up that sign, and I would direct the state highway department to suggest other good locations for the Brady Campaign to put up additional signs.

Signs like that would likely discourage would be criminals, and perhaps save the criminals' (who the Bradys so want to protect), as well as the state's citizens from being shot.

So do I....

There are some pretty crappy areas these days... Ever Drive along 19 in New Port Richie ?  Its nothing but scumbags & panhandlers these days.

I've been visiting that area of Florida since I was a kid & its gotten progressively shittier.

I should get a Florida non-resident concealed carry permit cause I'm there at least twice a year.

Remember the rule- never depend on a handgun who's caliber doesn't start with a 4.

This is why I have a problem with preventing law-abiding citizens from being able to legally carry a firearm in an establishment with an on-premises liquor license. Assuming the victim was in the Applebee's, he would have been in violation of SC CWP regulations.
