I hope that I'm not duplicating anyone's post here, but here goes... (I did a search first) I've read on another site that BrianCav who was a regular participant of this site has died from a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head within the last day or so. I'll try to find a link for you to see it on the Florida Shooter's site. His last post here was on the 18th. I'm sorry to hear that he is gone and I will miss his wit.

I wonder if he got encouragements to commit suicide from SOME of the members here like I have.
Link Posted: 12/26/2001 12:00:19 PM EST
Well it looks as if the source for my link is down for maintenence at this moment. I was going to post the link to the original thread, so I wouldn't paraphrase anything or get something wrong. My understanding of this whole matter is that Briancav gave no signals whatsoever in advance of this. He just up and did it. He didn't act despondent and he didn't start giving his stuff away, he just shot himself in the head with an AK out of the blue. Noone knows why. One request from me personally - On AK-47.net Volk and another guy are locking horns over the Catholic view of suicide on the very thread that announces the bad news. I ask all of you to avoid this line of discussion in public view because it is VERY inappropriate at this time. I do not think I will ever be ready to discuss this line of thought in relation to BrianCav and I trust that you all have more consideration than Volk concerning this matter. Though I have nothing against Volk personally, I do wish he would have held those remarks to a more appropriate place and time. As soon as I can post a link, I will. There is an address to send flowers and condolences to his parents on that site. BrianCav was the youngest son of two. His family would probably appreciate knowing how many people enjoyed him just generally being around and sharing in our hobby/lifestyle. Thank you, Scott Gammons (Gr8Scott)

That really sucks. Didn't he just post something not too long ago about a car wreck and a court case?

Yelp that is the one. I remembered something about the felony but it was getting dropped. I wonder if there was more to it (ie. the felony wasn't going to be dropped after all...) or maybe he really damaged something in the cranium when he got knocked out that caused him to commit this tragic act. Suicide without any indication or note is so awful because everyone just wonders forevermore what the hell went wrong. I worked with a guy that did the same thing. Walked out his front door and blasted himself under the chin with a .357. Wife and kids were in the house when he did it. To this day noone know why.

I'm very sorry to hear this. It is always very puzzling to me when someone takes their own life, what a gift to throw away. My sympathies to his family, if they see this.

Just remember though, these things aren't always suicide just because it looks like it. I know it sounds kind of dumb that when a person is found with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head that it is hard to see how it could be an accident, but I know of one such incident that affected me directly when a friend of mine accidentally shot himself. Had the whole incident not been witnessed by two of my other friends it would have definately been labeled a suicide. Hopefully this will all turn out to be a mistake anyways and none of this will matter.

BrianCav died this Christmas Eve from a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head from an AK-47 rifle. His father called me yesterday on Christmas with the bad news. His family is devastated by this tragedy. Brian was there youngest of there two sons. Brian was a good friend to a lot of us. I'm sure this news will hurt at lot of you as it did me. I was out with him only last Fri and he seemed to be his usual self. His father said he left there home sat evening in good spirits and that he seemed fine then. I can't fathom why he would do something like this. If there was something we could have done to prevent this we would have. Brian was a good kid who had a lot going for him. unfortunately some of his behavior lead him down this path. Those of us who were good friends with him will always remember Brian's fun and crazy ways. We laughed together, shared good times and bad. He will sorely be missed.... Services will be held some time next week in Connecticut. For those who wish to send flowers or condolence cards please feel free to address them to Mr. and Mrs. John B. Cavanagh 228 Bass Court Marco Island FL. 34145 I am sorry I had to pass this news on to all of you. God bless Brian, may he rest in peace, and my prayers for his family. This time of the year will never be the same for them. The suffering they must be going through right now is tremendous. Please keep Brian and his family in your prayers. May God forgive him and bless his soul. I had an uncle do it the same way, but he was terminal with cancer and was in extreme pain. Even though it hurt, we understood. It's a shame Brian's family will never get to understand.

Yep, it sucks. It's gonna be really hard on his family for a long time, especially with it being at Christmas. My brother died in a car accident 4 years ago a couple of days before Christmas and I don't think the holidays will ever be the same. My prayers are with him and his family.

There's nothing we can do for this kid. I just hope his final act didn't create anti's out of his mom and dad. We got enough of them running around nowadays.

32 years ago my father chose to do the same thing. I still feel the effects. Tonight I miss him more than usual, a lot more. Brian and his family are in my prayers. I e-mailed sympaties to his addry and recieved a nice response from his father. Condolences from us all would show he had many friends and that we care. Please be respectful and consider how you would feel if it were your son..... I find the holidays wellllll difficult. I understand how this can happen but can say from personal experience that it leaves behind untold suffering. Good by Brian; God bless.

That's a real shame My condolences to his family. And I would like to say to everybody out there if you ever ever feel this way talk to somebody - get some help, before you go to this extreme. There have been a couple of threads about depression and suicide lately and the holidays are particularly tough on some people But seriously dont ever let thoughts of taking your own life run away with you. I never met or knew this young man but I know he will be missed by his family and friends at a difficult time of year.

While I didn't know Brian I have seen his posts from time to time. We're all a family of sorts on these boards and when one of our own or their loved ones suffers, I believe we all feel it to a certain extent. My condolences. May God be with him and his family.
Link Posted: 12/27/2001 5:01:29 AM EST
I feel bad for him and his family. I also had questions about his crash, if you look at the tire marks, it looks like the car veered off the road and continued turning to the right as it went. I also didn't see any marks on the front of the Jag. in the picture. The crash he desrcribes, would have more likely caused the other vehicle to lose control, the rear of a car, esp. front wheel drive is lighter and more prone to being "knocked off track" then the front. Why did he have a shotgun with him. I just wonder if it wasn't a cry for help. I feel bad if it was and we missed it.
