Don't grieve for me. I guess that's one of the really good things about Hospice. You have a chance to have that final lucid conversation, the dreaded son-to-father talk, and the grieving process is nearing an end.

I don't know why we share these things in the Arfcom family but we do. And sometimes I see it's value.

My father's suffering is over and I pray (rare) he is now with my mother.

In keeping with Arfcom tradition I must now say go hug or call your dad. Don't let him go without knowing he was your hero and you loved him.

God bless.

It has been 14 years and I still miss my dad every day. The pain lessen with time... you always have the memories.

Lost my dad when I was 8. There are some lessons a kid shouldn't have to learn the hard way.

He's on post, right now. Last stanza.
Semper Fi to your Da.

The Marines Hymn

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the shores of Tripoli
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land and sea
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
Of United States Marine.

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in every clime and place
Where we could take a gun.
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job --
The United States Marines.

Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve.
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

From an old Prayer:

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there - I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glint on snow

I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain...

When you awake in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight
I am the soft starlight...at night...

I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain
I am the diamond glint on snow
I am a thousand winds that blow...

I am sorry for your loss, 10mm.

I walk(ed) your path this March.
Coincidently, my mother also proceeded my Dad on his journey, by some 9 years.
I pray there is a special place in heaven for these old soldiers, our Dads.
May God keep him in peace and comfort.

I'm sorry for your loss as well. My dad was a Marine aviator for 27 yeras, and it took some time in my early 20s before we finally came to terms with some issues between us. We now have a great relationship, and I am not looking forward to having to face his passing away. I hope it doesn't happen for a very long time.

Me and my dad were never very close. Him and my mom split up when I was about 4. We would literally go years without seeing or talking with each other. I was never mad or upset with him at any point. That's just how it was.

When I first started contracting overseas he was here. I got to see him for a couple of months before he got moved to Tikrit. He just quit at the end of last month and went home after working 12 years overseas. It will probably be a couple of years before I see or hear from him again. But, again, that's just how it is.

I dread the day he passes. Not even sure how I would feel since there is really no history between us. A weekend visit here, a couple of weeks there.

I'm sorry for your loss 10mmFan. Your folks are together again.

s1rG - Being in a family business my father and I had many disagreements, to put it mildly. I can't tell you how thankful I am that nothing happened to him during one of those times. We mended our fences about 15 years ago and I spent much of the past 15 years making amends for my immaturity.

He is still your dad. Don't neglect to do something that might haunt you for the rest of your life.

Remember him always as a man of streangth and character,
for no man has greater love in his heart than he that is willing to lay his life down for his countrymen many of whom he shall never meet...... Part of him now lives on in you.

Semper Fi.

I lost my dad 3 years ago. I still honor him every time I enter my gun/reloading room. I have a framed 8x10 of us together during a duck hunt. Next to that is a shadowbox that displays all his medals and ribbons from WW2, including his Purple Heart. After 3 years, I can now look at it and smile, rather than cry. Remember the good times.
