Just like Blackhawk Down, "We Were Soldiers Once" is a great book. Just like Black hawk it gives a minute to minute account of a horrendous battle. This was one of the first times that the US Army using the Air Cav locked horns with NVA regulars. I have reread it several times. Wabi

I think you're right. Also I believe Gen. Giap used this battle as a sort of test. Think he decided to figure another way. Seems as if there was also some Lt. who wanted to get the Medal (MOH) - got himself killed and a bunch of his men pretty early in the battle. Purple Heart - no MOH. Battle was maybe in the Ia Drang ??

Hey 5subslr5, what the heck is the MOA? I don't see it in my book of military ribbons. [smoke]

Well, it's obvious that none of you have any familiarity with the coveted "Minute-of-Angle-Medal-of-Honor.

I believe the History Channel covered this battle as the definitive example of Air Mobile combat operations in Vietnam. Very nice segment, with A LOT of footage.
