I want to buy a gun today.

The local Gander Mountain  has Walther P1's on sale for $270.  This is the post war version of the Walther P-38.  More than likely a former Polezi pistol.

Other choice is a Winchester 94 in .45 Colt.  Really want a Trails End or a Legacy in a 94.  Not sure how much they're going for with the Winchester rush going on.

Don't "need" either.  Which ever one I get will just be a plinker.

I have a Winnie in .45 colt, other than having the wrong link in place to stop loaded rounds exiting the magazine (needed to be releived a touch, too ahrd to send away for warranty work up in canada)  I love it, it shoots well, is accurate, hits ahrd, and does not kick much at all, fun little plinking rifle I woudl not hesitate to use against deer, bear, elk etc.

Oh and it looks less evil so having it in the truck is less likely to have he cops called on me, but I live in a nanny pussy country

I dont know about Winchester 45 Colt prices in stores, but I got 575 for mine on Gunbroker this week, not bad considering I only paid 250. I would buy the Winchester if its a good deal.

I would buy  the Winchester model 94 Trapper since I never owned an old west style lever action.

I dont really like the P38, I had one before and the slide cracked near the locking lugs, I heard that this was a common weak point in the P38 design.

Gander Mountain didn't have any Winchester 94's in .45 Colt so I went with the Walther P1.  The local store had four of them in stock.  I sorted though them all and chose the best looking one they had.  It came with 2 magazines, the holster and cleaning kit. Not a bad deal for $269.  Also picked up 200 rounds of FMJ 9mm.  ( This is my first 9mm in over four years)

Funny thing being "escorted" out of the store by an employee.  Not TO the door, not to the foyer, ALL THE WAY OUTSIDE before being handed my new purchase, meanwhile I had a cocked &  locked  Colt Goverment on my belt.  Oh well.

On a side note I stopped by my regular FFL and picked up my Global Tactical AR receiver.  Very clean.  Very nice.  Waiting on my LPK to come to assemble.
