Dammit all. Discovered the show about 5 years ago and was instantly hooked, quickly saddened when I realized there was only 14 episodes.

I have watched through the series 3 times now and watched the movie twice.

How come everything good has to get taken off the air, but we can have season 40 of American Idol.

It's even worse than you think. They have new shows on now, and here are two of the new ones:
Double Divas. These two women own a bra store and make custom bras for women. Of course, it
makes sense that it is on the lifetime network.
Black Ink Crew.  A tatoo parlor with a black owner and all black employees.
So this is what passes for entertainment these days. Glad I have DVD's to watch when I am not reading a book.

I suspect that the main reason Firefly was cancelled is that 87.87% of fans never watched it while it was on the air. I didn't hear about it until the boxed set was released and I needed a quick gift for someone. He called me a week or so later and made me promise to watch if he brought the DVD's over right goddamn now!

Shiney!!

Great series, great writing and a cast that really seemed to love what they were doing.

The wife hates it and thinks I'm a dork for watching hours and hours of the show but every time I watch it I catch something new.

While it may be a cheesey space show, that's not what's it all about. It's about the stories of people and Joss did a fantastic job of telling stories of human interaction ans the actors pulled it off 100%.

IMO the show has the best one liners and witty quotes of any series. It's a shame it got cancled!!

Very good analysis of the show. I watched it when it first ran, and I REALLY liked it. I was really pissed when it was cancelled. They only aired 10 or 11 of the episodes. Some were filmed, but never even aired. Idiots at Fox.

I felt the same way watching Stargate Universe.  It took a little bit to get going but I absolutely loved that show, and they killed it on a season end cliff hanger that was suppose to lead into season 3.

I never watched it on Fox. It started on Friday when I go out normally. I was a very late browncoat.

I had it stored on my DVR but I needed to replace the setbox so it looks like I will buy the series off Amazon. Maybe if enough people buy the movie and series they will bring it back.

I have never see an episode of Firefly, My sister was into it, but I am not a big tv watcher. I think it has to do with my ADD and commercials. The movie was pretty good though, I have been wanting to borrow the season from her for a while.

FOX did their level best to kill it, changing time slots, skipping weeks. Used the Train Robbery instead of the original first episode to introduce the series.

It's one of the best tv series I've ever seen. And the cast was amazing.

If you thought the movie was good then you'll love the show. I think they did ok on the movie, but their goal was to just wrap it up nice and neat for the fans. The series could have really gone places though.

I liked Serenity, but the whole Mr Universe thing was out there. The TV show is well worth the time (Amazon Prime, Netflix) they also run marathons. I think I picked up the series DVD for under 20. Hulu used to have free episodes as well, I think that stopped, but haven't checked.

Plus, they kept screwing around with the time slot and they showed the episodes out of order. Fox fucked it all up.

I did like you and watched Serenity first and wasn't impressed, but the movie works a lot better after seeing the series.

Of course after all the build up, it can be hard to be seen objectively.

I never even heard of it until someone mentioned it here, so I watched some of the episodes on Hulu and I was instantly hooked. I can see why some people would oppose the concept - a bunch of cowboy style thieves and criminals running around in outer space certainly does not fit the mold. But the writing, acting, and directing were excellent. I suspect that some closed-minded idiot at Fox determined to kill the show based on the concept and then made it happen.

This would be the type of person who thinks that being a vegan with tattoos of Chinese characters that he can't read and voting for Obama make him Unique. He probably works for Honey Boo Boo now because he is so creative.

I guess a follow up movie is better than nothing but i didnt like serenity. The main reason being reavers. in the series, they were these monsters in the dark that everyone was afraid of and then in the movie- well i dont want to spoil it for someone who hasnt seen it yet but it was a let down for me.

I can see why it got cancelled. It feels like the writers couldn't decide between a big, Babylon 5-style story arc or a more episodic feel.

Mr. Universe was a bit out there, but overall I thought the movie was handled well.  Took established "everyday working man" characters who through their travels stumbled into something huge.  The people then deal with it in ways that are true to their characters.

It was a movie for fans of the TV series, so it's no wonder that it doesn't work as well for someone who hasn't seen the series.
