After a great 2011 both personally and with my business Ive decided to buy a nice time piece to reward and remember it.

Being mid twenties I dont have any higher end watches yet so this will be my first of hopefully many. Ive always admired some of the watches the members here own.

So that said what should I look at? Budget is about $2k max(but Ill bend for the right watch). Primarily used for going out/travel/whenever else i feel like wearing it(but not a daily worn).

Ive always been a huge fan of Omega speedmasters and seamasters. I prefer chrono but a good clean face watch is good too. I also like simple bezels(not necessarily numbering on them a issue but nore that they are raised all over and junk. Clean and smooth is good).

Color wise i like dark titanium or gunmetal grey for the band but not necessary. For the face I was thinking either black/silver/white/blue. Something that goes with everything.

I also took a look at the Tag Carerra line and like almost all of those. Checked out a few Tissot setups too and they seem very nice.

Would prefer a auto and used isnt out of the question as long as its in good condition.

So what would you recommend? Pictures are great and any good websites to scope out deals are good too!

You really can not go wrong with the Omegas. If you like em, just get one. You won't be disappointed.

This. Or a Tag Heuer for a bit less.
Link Posted: 12/22/2011 11:41:44 AM EDT
Tag is on sale at my local dealer for 40% off the link models and the carreras are almost all 25% off.

Still they are both cheaper on ebay slightly used and authentic.

Link Posted: 12/22/2011 11:42:03 AM EDT
Really cant go wrong with a good Omega Seamaster and you should be able to find one in the budget fairly easy. I dont personally own one, but it is on my list when I become a little richer.

The blue wave face is pretty nice.

Now where did they put that watch subform again?

Eh, your bezel stipulation takes most Brietlings out...
...stick w/ a nice Speedmaster, or maybe take a look at an Orris or Ball.

It's not what you're looking for, but if I could justify spending the money, I'd buy a Lum-Tec Combat B7.

Sinn, Longines, Hamilton, Omega, TAG are all great brands that have watches in your range, although to get an auto Seamaster/Speedmaster you'll have to go pre owned. Check out the sales forums at Timezone.com and watchuseek.com. Here are two of my grails.

Good Luck!

Debaufre blue red Gmt Ocean-1 watch 325.00 out the door and is the watch to buy.

lumtec anything from them rocks.

omega seamaster. a classic watch for any man should own. if buying used make sure it has been serviced.

some rolex's if you find the right price on one. make sure it has been serviced if used.

some of the cartier watches would fall in this category.

skip breitling. they loose a ton of value for the price you pay. always buy used.

make sure to buy an automatic. skip the quartz, you will appreciate it more over time

do not buy a seiko, they suck personally i have issues wtih mine holding up

do not buy a tag heuer. it will not hold value. they tank 50% the first time you wear it or more. only buy used.

skip tissot. not that great of a watch for the money paid.

if you are loolking for a dealer please contact this man GEOFF@PROVIDENTJEWELRY.COM

I love Omegas and own both a Speedmaster Professional and a Seamaster Professional. You can find Speedmasters around the $2K mark used, Seamaster Pro automatics used can be found in the $1200 - $1600. The 1120 movement is a work horse and I can't say I have heard anything negative about the 2500 Co-Axial movement. The new SMP's are without the wave dial, much to my dismay.

I say take a look around at some good used ones. They will hold their value more than a brand new one.

Pics to follow...

Paid $1300 off of ebay for my Seamaster

Good Luck!

You have the same taste as I. Those are 2 of the exact watch style from the 2 main brands Im looking at that I really really like.

So as far as used goes are there years that have more issues than others?

For the Omega's, I haven't heard of any issues. The Speedmaster Pro has used the essentially same movement for a long time. The 861 and 1861 are excellent movements. On the Seamaster, the older 1120 auto's are very nice and have a good reputation. The 2500 Co-axial has a few different revisions, i.e. A, B, C, and D. I am not very familiar with it but you can find them within your price range.

IWC for the win. There are many reputable sites where you can find them used with box etc. They do a FINE job of moving up in value. OR,,,,,you could take a trip to Jamaica and buy one new for the same price.

I'll offer another vote for the Omega Seamaster....in your price range, you can a nice preowned one and still have plenty of money left over to begin saving for your second nice watch

I wouldnt even bother getting a watch for $2000.

Get a Citizen Eco Drive SKyhawk for under $400.00. I have a Calbre 8700. I just bought my wife a very nice Womens Eco Drive Susan G. Koman for Christmas. She is going to love it. Not bad for $275.00. Real diamonds, never needs a battery. Honeslty it is the best watch I have ever had. Never loses the time, never needs a battery, water resistant so I can swim with it on and everything. They have a great warranty as well. I have put my watch through the ringer and it still doesnt have any scratches.

Wife's new Eco Drive

How about a Vostok Amphibian 1967.....? No one else will have a watch like it, and only $300 shipped to your door. Swiss watches are ...boring.

I'm more partial to Tag Heuer. I love my Formula 1 Indy 500. But Omega's are awesome too. You can't go wrong with either one.

2000 for a watch?? Are you fucking insane. All it does is tell you what time it is, your cell phone will do that all ready.

Some people spend $600 on an AR, some people spend 10 times that. Nothing wrong with either.

And the timing is more accurate on your phone.

Here I was thinking I just got a really nice watch for Christmas. Wife picked me up a an Invicta Pro Diver that retails for $315 (But she got it for $80). I thought that was insane, but I LOVE the watch. Nicest one I've ever had.

Why bother reading a watch thread if all you are going to do is bitch, whine, and piss all over it? Don't like watches? Go hang out in the HOTD thread.

Because some of us don't wear gobs of jewelry and like a nice time piece that's not only functions but also says something unique about the wearer.

This. All good choices.

I'd go with a used Omega though.

I wouldn't bother with a Rolex if you are under 45 though.

Strong recommendation from a fellow business owner, if this is your first good year keep it as money for the bad times. Not your first good year I say an Omega.

I've wanted an Omega since I visited Space Center Houston and found out about the "Moon Watch". The Speedmaster Professional is a bit out of my price range right now, so I'm shopping Seamasters pretty hard.

I know a handful of people that wear an Omega. Most seem to wear Seiko, Citizen, Tag, Movado, or Rolex (if they have money). Maybe it is regional. I think most watch guys own a Seamaster, but most men aren't watch guys.

Omegas have such a high volume of grey market sales now, that they seem to be very common among people who want a big name watch. Not saying it's not a good watch, it's just getting played out. I always wanted one and now I'm glad I never bought one. I'd rather have a Rolex. They hold value much better. I wouldn't wear a Movado if someone gave it to me.

After I got my Breitling, I stopped wearing my Seamaster for about two years. Recently I've gone back to wearing the Seamaster

I have my father's Movado, I hate the watch, couldn't really stand him... but it was his, so it sits in my safe. I will never wear it.
