Doing some maintenance on the #1 son's house. I decided to check the outside condenser.
I sneaked up on the disconnect box, 'cause that's where the wasp usually hang out. Nothing.
Shut unit off. Remove screws from cover, start poking around.
While grabbing handfuls of leaves, I felt like I grabbed something hot. REAL HOT.
I pulled my hand out of cover with at least 6 or 7 wasps stuck to me.
I performed the modified stationary panic(bouncing up and down while killing wasps) for several seconds while blurting out bad words.

I got stung at least 5 times. My hand swelled for several hours. For some reason, my middle finger didn't swell, so it was sticking up the whole time...
Benedryl(Thanks Professor Reiveschl) and ice packs. My arm was numb to my shoulder. It still aches at my elbow and wrist.

I'm going back in the morning after work. I'm starting with a chemical attack. Any trying to escape will get hit with fire.

There must be a place for them in the ecosystem, but I can't see it.

Which kind nailed you?  The red one's hit the worst.  You'll still be feeling it by this time next week.

So, you went looking for trouble and got bit

I award points for looking after the kiddo and manufacturing another reason, why you shouldn't go to the home.

Edit: additional points added for 'modified stationary panic'.

They call it "Winged Death" in Albuquerque.

Next time make a paste with Accent meat tenderizer and water. Put it on each sting site. Wasp venom is protein based. Accent tenderizes meat by breaking down the protein. I have found this to work very well and very fast.
When your pain is gone go back and kill them all, with fire.

You probably ought to consult with your doctor about the reaction.  Allergies to insect stings can come on suddenly, the next sting could be way worse.

And this is why I wear leather gloves for any kind of work around the house outside or where I can't see what's there.

Between this and other related posts......Ohhhhhh....CHILLS!

I was out walking my ranch to be last night, seeing how it looked in the night time, and I did my steps very carefully. Still, as the ground changed from dirt and rock to brush and sunflowers, I was wondering if I might find a nest the hard way.

Am I the only one who immediately treats these kind of stings with gasoline?

You don't drink it, you rub a little on the sting. I have spilled more gasonline on myself gassing up cars and lawn mowers. Works the best with yellow jacket stings.... I have also tried bleach, and various other stuff. I used to Benedril in the past if any was handy. IANAD.

edit....well I guess I am going to die..

I like those little buggers!

They pick off a bunch of little jokers running around my garden eating my produce that I grow.

Now...........hate to say it ...........but when cooler weather comes and most of the garden is gone......

I nuke them from orbit!

Nope. I'm going back while the pain is still fresh in my memory. Makes me more sadistic.
