Mine was in 1982. A Colt Car 15. A B'day present from my Dad. He didn't even wrap it. A real mans man.
Within 30 min I was at the range. I still have it, and will never sell it. |
My first was pre, but I sold that one to my brother when I was short on cash years ago.
I bought mine in 1984. It was a Colt sporter 2, & I made the mistake of selling it in 1993 for $1,000. It had a 8 to 21 power scope, & about 30 30rd mags. I literally had a full to the top paper grocery bag full of mags, & extras. Boy was I stupid to do that. Thanks for the reminder![:(!]

Mine was a pre-Clinton Colt.
Edited to say that it wasn't until several years after the 94 ban that I realized that Ar-15 type rifles were made by businesses other than Colt and Olympic. |
PreBan Colt Hbar Sporter- Traded for PreBan Benelli M3 Super 90 which I sold.
Preban Bushmaster Shorty (not AK)-traded for something...don't remember PreBan OlyArms CAR-style- traded for unfired preban Hungarian AK underfolder which I sold. Post Ban Bushmaster Shorty AK- don't remember what happened to that one. List could go on for quite a bit.... TS |

Got my first AR in '99.
Was in the service prior to the AWB and didn't have the $$$ for a rifle or a suitable place to store it. Funny thing is, my separation date from the USAF is 13SEP94. I guess that would make me a pre-ban. -934 |
Got my first around 1986 +/- IIRC.
It was one of the first Colt AR-15A2 HBAR's that Wammes shipped out when I had my FFL. Still have her. Very Fine. MM419 |

Like a dope, I never bought one pre 94. I was picky and cheap at the time and I couldn't find one I liked for the price I wanted. Little did I know $400 was cheap at the time. In the famous words of Homer Simpson "DOH!" [>Q] [brick]

Owned 3 Pre-Bans before they were Pre-Ban and still have one of them.
Sold one and traded one off before D-Day Sept. 1994 , [banghead] [>Q] |

I bought mine in 2002. I was in the 8th grade during the ban.

229.00 - you are the devil.

Still have it, but don't shoot it as much as I did when I was 22. |

Mine was an Oly, collapsable stock, huge supressor... just like the Sarge on "Tour of Duty" had.

I sold all my prebans to some idiots who set up a card table down in front of city hall one weekend, several years ago. I think they called it a "buy back" program or some such nonsense (never did figure that out...as far as I know, the rifles were never theirs in the first place). Anyway, they gave me $50 apiece for them, so I think I made out pretty well. But then, like I said, they were idiots.

I got my first(and for now only) AR15 in 1999. It's a Bushmaster. I didn't even know AR15s existed back when the ban came into effect. Hell, I didn't even know there was a ban until I became a member here. Although I was on my high school JROTC rifle team and enjoyed shooting, I wasn't really "into" guns until 1999. If I only knew then what I know now.

Feb. 2001 - same time I joined this board.
Seemed like a good idea at the time. |
May 2002. The only guns I was interested in in 1994 was my hunting rifle and my Ruger P89. How times change...I'd give up my 30-06 for another AR any day, now.

Preban Oly in 1993. Saw the ban coming and figured I'd better get one before I couldn't anymore, and I'd been wanting one for years before that. Wish I'd bought more prebans back then. Added a postban or two or three since then.
BIG TIME regret... wish I'd bought that brand spankin' new Colt SP1 for $189 in a South Florida Montgomery-Wards back in the late 1970s. [banghead] |

Pre
A group of friends were going shooting. My guns were in another city from where I was then living. I wanted an AR and this would be the excuse. I head on out to the local store. Ask for an AR. They are OUT of them. I am feeling very disappointed. So I start considering the 10-22's so I wouldn't have to borrow at the shoot. While beginning to do the deal for the 10-22 the delivery truck arrives. Gun sales guy says he'll check the delivery. I ended up with a fresh-off-the-truck SP-1. I should have bought the whole shipment. |
My first AR was a Stirling AR-180, purchased around 1984 at a gun show.
The night of the Stockton schoolyard shooting in 1989, I got on the phone with some friends and told them that the Leftists would use this as an excuse to ban ARs. I have been on a buying spree ever since. Due to stupid Socialist laws in Kalifornia I decline to state the current size and whereabouts of my stockpile. P.S. But my boardname offers a clue... |
After ... before the ban I was still in high school. I had always wanted one, but my father wouldn't let me own a rifle while I lived at home. Pretty hypocritical considering he owned 4-5 rifles (and not once did he ever bother to teach me or my siblings about firearms safety ... I was thinking about that the other day and I got rather pissed off about how irresponsible that was). Anyway, it kind of took a back burner priority after that and never really came back to the forefront of my interests until late last year. Better late than never, I guess.

My first was about the time I joined the board. Been wanting one for quite a while and went to a gun show and bought a Bushmaster. Then done some searching and found this site.

Colt, back in the '70s. I won't say what I sold it for but I wish I still had it!
I got my first (and only so far) in March of 2000. I'm hoping to add a pre-ban soon!
I bought my '88 Colt R6600 in early 1999. Wasn't really looking for a new rifle, but a friend of a friend wanted to sell it for $750 with a broken firing pin. Couldn't turn down that deal.
I did not realize I needed one until I was told I couldn't\shouldn't have one. Now I have several and the government made me do it.

I bought my first AR in a mad rush just a few days before the ban passed the senate. I paid a god awfull $900.00 for a NIB Colt preban and $12.00 each for NIW GI 30rnd mags.
When the ban passed I was in 2nd grade. I got my AR 2 months ago.

Bought mine May 5, 1994 the day they signed the crime bill and told me I coulnt have one. I never was interested in an AR untill then. I guess, thanks Bill.

Colt Sporter Target. Still have it.....lots and lots and lots of rounds through it. Who ever said that a barrel was only good for 10-20K rounds certainly wasn't talking about this one!
My first 4 AR's were before 94.
The first one around 1975, a Colt SP1. |
1981/82 Colt SP1, my ex-wife stole it a pawned it...had it almost 20 years

Didn't get interested in them until '99. Prior to that I was a target shooter/hunter who did not understand the fun in shooting the "black guns".
It's one of the few things that I can thank my ex for. While going through the divorce, handling all the dirty work in finishing things up, and watching my life go down in flames I needed a diversion. A friend who was into the military stuff took me out shooting to "get me out of the house to do something fun." It worked, I had a blast, and haven't looked back since. I only get pre-bans because "they" don't want us to have them. (You should have seen the look on her face when she dropped in to pick up some things and I had it apart on the kitchen island for cleaning. She blurted out "what is that for?" Since it was a 6601 I said "for extreme accuracy in long range shooting." She left shortly after. Twit. She was too into herself to understand that I didn't care enough to pose any danger to her.) |
