Yeah, it's true. I think he was injured on a jump and was discharged.

Was he in the service before the 101st switched from airborne to air assault?

 In 1961 at age 17, James Marshall Hendrix enlisted in the 101st Airborne. He recieved an injury on his 26th jump and was medically discharged after 14 months service. |

Yep,and according to VH-1,he even supported our fight in Viet Nam.(at least early in the conflict,so they say)
