[rant on]
i'm in walmart last night with the wife. She's shopping i'm killing time till she is done. Anyway they have a cheap jensen car radio on sale. I need a new one for my truck and it's a good price. I spent 20 min waiting for someone to get one out of the cabinet. Now here is where the fun starts. they get the radio then walk me to sporting goods to check out. Clerk pulls out this big book and proceeds to log down serial numbers. Then she wants my name address, phone and drivers license info to put in her book. I refuse and ask why. she says it's for warranty coverage. I tell her the box has a warranty card for the manufacturer. I am then informed if i don't give her the info she can't sell the radio. WTF?! I ask for a manager. He comes over and apologizes but says this is a new policy and they must have my info. I say fine "John Doe" dl# 1234567 there sell me the damn radio. He laughs and says that wont do that then only john doe could return it. I tell him it's no problem for me that if he refuses to return with a paid reciet i can just reverse the charges on my credit card. After all this shit i finally get the radio without them getting one damn bit of info from me. A LONG line has formed at the sports counter trying to see whats up and a few folks are pissed about the hold up at the register. To top it off they want to escort me out of the freaking store with it. WTF is up with that? Since when is a cheap car stereo a restricted/dangerous item. PLEASE LORD LET WALMART get some good competition. I really HATE having to do business with those bastards. [/rant off] |

So Mike,
Why do you keep going back? BTW they have been doing that here for at least 2 yrs. |
|
becuase they are pretty much the only game in town within 30 miles. i have a kmart but they are a freking joke.
mike |
|
Did they ask you why you needed a car radio in the first place?

i just returned from wal-mart & for the first time i came home in a good mood. i first went
to the bass pro shop to buy shotgun shells. the price on the shelf was 7.99 a box for 20 gauge remington express #4 shot. i get to counter and the box rings up to 11.99. well after 20 minutes of waiting and talking to a manager (i use this term loosely) they would not drop the price below 9.99. this was supposed to be the correct price he said. i then walked back to the hunting section a proceded to tell everyone there what happened (in a loud voice) it started with attention eveyone that does not want to be ripped off by this store.......... to make a long story short i was escorted out by 2 officers. i then went to wal-mart and the old guy behind the counter bent over backwards to try to find me the shells i wanted. he found 2 boxes which i purchased. on the way out the door checker saw the shells in the see thru bag i had and said " well going shooting sounds like fun wish i could go" this was about a 60+ year old lady. i smiled and wished her a good day. by the way the same shells were 7.88 at wal-mart |

Good for you The_Beer_Slayer. There's waaaay too much invasion of privacy as it is. The "warranty coverage" sounds like BS to me. They probably wanted your personal info for their marketing bean counters, then next thing you know you'd be getting junk mail and phone solicitations. No thanks.

How about we all come up with a name and address that we all use when these places want out personal info. Could be a good laugh when stores around the country start getting the same info on a fictitious person. How does John Michelson of 427 Birchwood Street in Tucson AZ sound? P.s. Yeah,I was so pissed off. Cause they wouldn't let us checkout at the front. We had to checkout in sporting goods. I was not done with my shopping. They wouldn't even let me finish. So,the_beer_slayer and I checked out. And let me tell you something. I love to shop. But not at a place that is going to restrict me from where I am aloud to cash out. You know,we actually quit shopping at K-mart cause you could never get anyone to help you. It's getting to the point where you have to wait on them for hours before they help you. 25 12ga. #8 Winchester. $2.88 No questions, no hassle. Was told by Sporting goods that I could go to the front registers. It's a conspiracy.

View Quote No offense, but it is sort of silly to balk at giving them your info for the "warranty", since you were basically going to give them the same thing anyways as soon as you paid by CC. I realized this a year or so ago when I refused to get one of those "Preferred Customer" cards from my grocery store when they started requiring them for all sale prices. Then I realized I was still using my debit card to pay for my purchases. Easier for them to track the purchases with their card, but you'd be naive to think they don't know exactly who you are, where you live etc. the second you swipe that card. If you don't want your purchases tracked/logged, etc just about the only solution is to pay by cash. Rocko |
|
the point is they didn't need any additional info. Yes it was done with a CC. But that is not kept in the little book with my name, address, phone number, and Drivers license info. Walmart has Zero need for anything other than my payment info. period. I work on the walmart computer systems. It is not as easy as you think to track info for a particular sale without a receit. Sure it can be done but at least they have to work for it.
The last thing i need is some inbred welfare mongrel having access to my personal info by stealing the book from the store. It is an invasion of privacy. Plain and simple. |

that reminds me of the time that i was in kmart
and someone picked up the phone in automotive and said if somebody does not hurry up and help me in a couple of minutes i am going to start stealing things. i laughed my ass off. |

I posted something to the same effect a couple months ago. Bought a 12 gauge over-under and got treated like I had just robbed the place. I will not buy from Walmart again. They can kiss me where the skin turns pink.

I too have had some run ins with the sporting goods dept. at my Wal-Mart. The first few I bit my tounge and then finaly talked to the store manager. Problem has since been rectified. As I looked back, my problem wasn't with Wal-Mart, but with a few employees. This can be found anywhere. Now, in Wal-Marts defense, I hit them up recently for a donation for our annual fishing rodeo and they donated about $100 worth of gear. I found this to be a nice gesture and went back a month later and asked them to cut me a deal on an 870 I wanted to give away at Hunter Safety Education. They agreed to sell me one at cost, but the kid that won it needed a left hand gun. Wal-mart made up the difference in price. All in all, if I deal with the sporting goods manager or store manager and not some flunkie stock boy I have pretty good luck. Might just be my store though. Walmart is the only thing closer that at least an hour away.

I got my mom a replacement VCR recently. I was told to keep the receipt, in case it needed servicing.
