I went to wal-mart to buy ammo for my sub-2000 today and they wouldn't sell me any "pistol ammo" because I'm 20 years old.
I tried to tell them it wasn't for a pistol and I had bought it there before, and they still told me no. I asked them to get the sporting goods manager, and he told me the same thing. WTF? |
|
They don't care. Its walmart, I tried to buy paintballs when I was 16 and they wouldn't sell to me. They sure did sell me a machete and knife though.

its pistol ammo ,its federal law IIRC There are plenty of rifles that shoot 9mm ammo. |

Explain to them that there is no such thing as a pistol caliber.

You idiots have just loaded a double barreled hair trigger shit machine gun and pointed at you own heads. |
|
Next time bring the 2000 in for them to see. I'm sure that will convince them it's not for a pistol
|
|
Their register automatically prompts them to ask if you are 21.

I have the same problem.
Luckily my walmart sells ammo around the clock, so i go in at 2 in the morning on friday or saturday nights when some janitor has the keys, and he doesn't give a rats ass about those pesky age restrictions. |

Gee, now you're bashing Walmart for going by the law? What a foolish thread.
You CAN NOT buy 9mm or any other handgun ammo until you are 21. Period. End of story. |
|
Hell last time I got ammo from Wal-Mart the fat pig beast said I needed my Pistol permit and 2 more forms of ID because it is Wal-Mart law....

I'm not sure about the laws in your state, but in Iowa ammo is classified by the firearm it is most typically used in.
9mm is pistol ammo. You must be of age to purchase pistol ammo. .22LR is specifically mentioned and considered rifle ammo. |

The last time I was asked pistol or rifle, I said "machinegun". She cocked her head and proceeded with the transaction.
Federal age limit on MGs is 18 (versus handguns at 21) |
|
The last time I bought ammo at wal mart I asked for .300wm, and got .300wsm, took it back and they threw a hissy fit over "thats what you asked for!" "No I didn't" "Its all the same, it will shoot in your gun"

I had that same problem with Walmart and some other big sporting goods stores when I was 18-20. Of course, I actually was buying it for a handgun (which I legally purchased via a private sale) so I couldn't really bitch too loudly. I always found another place to buy it.

Back in the mid 1980's, when I was in the US ARMY, I took leave, and visited My Dad.
I had money burning a hole in my pocket, and wanted a new S&W 686 .357 magnum revolver. They said I was too young to buy it. I told them I carried a fucking M16A1 for a living, and they didn't care. then,....and now.... FUCK WALMART |

fucking "because it's the law bullshit"

I tried to buy an RPG-7 at Walmart and they said that they couldn't sell them and didn't have any in stock. FUCK THEM!

Don't you know if you buy pistol ammo at your age it will load itself and magically fire your pistol with reckless abandonment in the direction or toddlers and nuns. Seriously....we've got some stupid restrictions in this country. |

Seriously....we've got some stupid restrictions in this country. That may be, but it isn't Wal-Mart's fault |

I was told I needed a "Federal ID" to get .308 at a Wal Mart. I figured they weren't going to let me buy it no matter what, so I showed my .mil ID, and said "This was issued by the Federal Government, and it's ID, can I get the ammo now?" The lady then said the single dumbest thing I've ever heard. "No no, you need a State Federal ID." Oh, well that changes everything. |

End of story. wrong, Fed law states that ammo that can only be used in a handgun can be purchased by someone 21 or over, but if it is going to be used in a rifle then it can be sold to 18+ and I quote "(b) It shall be unlawful for any licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to sell or deliver–– (1) any firearm or ammunition to any individual who the licensee knows or has reasonable cause to believe is less than eighteen years of age, and, if the firearm, or ammunition is other than a shotgun or rifle, or ammunition for a shotgun or rifle, to any individual who the licensee knows or has reasonable cause to believe is less than twenty-one years of age" Sec 922 title 18 It says specifically other than a rifle or shotgun, if he is using the ammunution in a rifle then it is rifle ammunition wal-mart has(or at least had) the ability to select rifle or handgun when checking you out, I bought 9mm all the time when I was 18 and had a 9mm rifle. |

about 10 years ago i was buying a few boxes of 9mm at walmart, the lady asked if it was for a handgun, i said its for my shotgun, she didnt miss a beat, rang it up and out the door i went
