I also believe Michael Moore and his socialist cronies succeeded in stopping the sale of handgun ammunition in all K-Mart stores, hopefully Wal Mart retains a backbone through all of this and stands with their pro-gun stance.

Ok.   I accept that.

I was of that mind, then, I looked at what gun shops charged for the same ammo WM sold
it for.  I just couldn't see paying that much more for it.

I still won't buy ammo from gunshops if WM goes away.

I'll buy it online, like I do about 75% of the time anyway.

The only gun I've bought from WM is my wife's 20 gauge.

I seriously doubt low-end BS gun sales are going to prop up gun shops THAT much.

WM going away from gun stuff isn't going to be the slavation of the industry,
I don't think.

Are we completely sure this is because of anti-gun pressure and not because they are not making much money selling firearms?

Not saying I don't believe it but I'd like to see an article or something in the way of proving the reason.

And you would effectively drive many people from the firearm sports and hunting. Wal-Marts in many small towns are the only places many people can get ammo and guns.

Just because you want to spend more money on ammo at a gunstore, doesn't not mean everyone does. I've never bought a gun or ammo from my local gunstores because they are too expensive. I'm not willing to pay for something that another store will sell be for cheap. Wal-Mart, Surplus Stores and the Internet are where I spend my money with most of it going to on-line stores and firearms auction sites. I support my local ranges, but the market should not be stiffled in one area or another. You want me to support you having the right to the expensive gun store products, then support me buying cheap Wal-Mart ammo. Stop being selfish about your sport. If Wal-Mart stopped selling ammo, no doubt WWB would rise in price even more.

I have heard that you are debating discontinuing the sale of firearms and ammunition in your retail stores. I buy All my airgun targets and ammunition from your stores and frequently buy rifle ammunition from your stores. I have always seen Walmart as a business frieldly to outdoorsman and hunters, but this is changing my mind. I would like you to know that I would be extremely disappointed if you decided to discontinue selling these products. Thank you for your time.

Before WM came to town you could buy ammo from both of the local hardware stores. Then WM came along and put them out of business.

I could care less about WM and their gun and ammo sales. Or lack there of.

And I doubt very seriously if WM does not sell guns and ammo the people are going to be deprived.

I just got an email back from Wal Mart.

"Thank you for your message.

At Wal-Mart, we strive to provide merchandise to meet consumer demand
in a given community.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. has made a business decision to remove firearms
from approximately 1000 locations within the U.S. beginning March 6,
2006.  This decision is based on diminished customer relevancy and demand
within multiple markets.

As with all merchandise decisions that we make our decision to remove
guns from Wal-Mart locations is simply based on the lack of customer
demand for firearms in a given community.  We will now be able to utilize
our resources more effectively to provide customers with the
merchandise that they wish to purchase -- and to discontinue merchandise that
they show no interest in.

Thank you,

It costs me about 10 bucks more to buy a case of ammo from my local FFL. I'll spend the $10. He'll order anything I want and he doesn't have to be called over from the shoe dept. to do it.

What I mean is I would like more variety in their selection instead of FMJ 115gr 9mm 165gr.40... etc, it would be nice to get heavier bullets and hollow points instead of the target/plinking.
When I ask if they sell Gold Dot and the cashier points to the art/craft section it's rather depressing

I'm really surprised at some of the negativity here...It's not about Wallmart, it's about the anti's and their damn incrimentalism. We've got to shut them out before they shut us out.
They have to be apposed at every angle; Wallmart just happens to be another angle. Wallmart obviously has power so let the people influence that power and make that power work for us...

I like the idea of being able to impulsivley buy a Mossberg Model 500 20 gauge whenever I run out to get diapers for the little Sukebe.

I haven't actually done it yet but it's comforting to know that the shotguns are just a couple of ailses from the baby items.

+1 if "mom and pop" gunstores wanted my buisiness they would approach reasonable pricess and try to keep things that interest me in stock.  The only thing I buy from them is what I have to.  And I can safely say that they won't get any new buisiness from me because of this (a few online ammo places will though)
