Have you seen this? Some fugging Metro guy in a flannel shirt bakes a cake, wipes up a spill and holds a puppy? At most...he is scrawny...but far from Brawny.

Bring back the old Brawny guy. He had testosterone in his blood...not estrogen.

Just another rant on thr feminization of men in the advertising industry....

Are you a pitcher? Looking for a date? Look elsewhere buddy

No, I am saying that the image of the American Male is being feminized to the point where being gay seems to be the trend. Too many women in the ad industry trying to sell an image of what they want? I don't know...just pisses me off.
Link Posted: 3/10/2005 6:02:04 AM EDT
anybody notice that it is the women in the commercials that can do it all? The men are usually portrayed as dummies and wimps. The hen pecked husband is a popular portrayal in today's media.

My wife hates this as much or more than me.

The new brawny guy is gay...at least that's what I think every time I see the commercial. I used to think of the other guy as a lumberjack, this guy is an interior decorator!

Not that there is anything wrong with that . ..

I have noticed that characters on many TV shows and commercials get a dip each of stupidity, ignorance, uselessness, and dependency for each of the following traits:

1. masculinity

2. heterosexuality

3. marriage

4. fatherhood

5. being white.

Chinese lesbians without girlfriends are bold, competent and independent. White gay guys with boyfriends are mildly impaired human beings. A single black dad is kind of a dumbass. A married white dad is an irretrievable loser. The ultimate is the stupid lumpy middle-aged white dad who gets new cell phones for his beautiful, smart, vivacious daughters and wife; they gleefully accept the phones and dash off while Dad pathetically fumbles around by himself in the living room bleating "Group hug?" or something like that.

Next time you're at the grocery store, take a look at the picture on the roll (if it hasn't changed). The old Brawny guy's moustache was covering stretchmarks, too.

I haven't seen that TV commercial, I hardly watch that wasteland anymore, but I've seen them make a few commercials. They do a scene many, many times. That poor dog must've been lifted like that so many times, that it would be painful. Then the best scenes are all spliced together.

I always thought the manly "Brawny" guy was gay. Have not seen the new guy.

OMG! When my wife and I first saw that commercial I checked to see if we had accidentally changed the channel to Comedy Central and it was a spoof - nope. It is teh ghey! Jesus - my wife said, "Shit, they're marketing to women who like wussified men who are in touch with their feelings, and to gay men who are "housewives" themselves - ick!"

Relax, it's simply target marketing. It's all about the money, not about some evil guy behind the scene trying to "Feminise" men. The ads are far more likely to FOLLOW trends in society than to SET them. Don't blame the commercial. Women are the primary buyers of Brawny, and you can be damn well sure that their Marketing folks (or Ad Agency) have discovered what works most effectively with them. For consumer products, it's all about getting someone's attention, not product specifics.

Ever seen the Hardees commercial with the guy working on his El-Camino?

This subject is a huge pet-peeve of mine. The feminization of the American male.

All I can say is that I do NOT remain silent when I see some shit like that, and neigher should any of you. It's time we stood up against this crap.

Strange, I'm 40 years old and single so I date pretty regularly. I run into some womenz who spew this man bashing crap, not because they really are man haters, but because thet is how society has trained them to think. When they start with any of the man bashing stuff around me, I politely give them a schoolin' on the subject - and 99.999% of the time they see my point and agree.

A woman does not want a man that is a wuss. They want, and are attracted to, a MAN.

Stand up guys. Don't be silent.

CMOS

Yes, I see this everywhere on TV...

The white guy is usually the wimp and an idiot ... on the flip side, he usually has a hot wife though ...

Since its women who do most of the shopping, can you blame the industry for catering to what appeals to women?

A man dripping white goo on another man's face??!!
Damn it, the ad just broke my gay-dar.

I wish they made commercials like Liberals getting roasted by cannibals using Kingsford Charcoal "for the best crispy taste".
Link Posted: 3/11/2005 7:01:21 AM EDT
My favorite is the Brinks commercial where this guy is breaking into a house (white burglar of coarse) and husband looks scared holding his children while the macho wife talks to the Brinks guy on the phone.

ditto.

The commercial is "no bueno" which means "it sucks" here in Texas.
I'm still waiting for the Boost Mobile commercial, haven't seen it but heard it's very ghetto.

Wow, I'd forgotten about that one. That one really IS particularly nauseating.

"EEK! I will cower here and soil myself like the whimpering worm that I am while my fierce wife with ice water in her veins summons the Brinks studs to save me and mine!"*

*Not to be construed as an attempt to disparage fierce women with ice water in their veins; we can always use a few more of them, particularly if they're armed.

Again, they are exploiting the fears of women viewers.

I saw that Brinks commercial last night and it occurred to me that I'd like to see Remington make a similar commercial advertising the effectiveness of the Model 870 in dealing with unwanted guests.

Good lord.

Must be shown on Bravo exclusively.
Some quotes of interest:

"Oh yeah, just like that"
"You've been a naughty boy"

Would that not be the shit?

ETA: I would go buy extra 870s to encourage them.
