Any one got a guess? It's confined to an area of appx. 100sqft, but there are hundreds of these holes. looks to me like something is digging for worms or grubs or something, as the holes are only about 2-3" deep. but the only things is see in the area are rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks.

looks like the perp left a calling card.

VERY strange. Because I am having the exact same problem. Central AL.

Also, had an armadillo or something digging a BIG hole under my front porch. Coincidence?

Maybe.....

?

On a lighter note... It might be a skunk. Few years back I had some holes like that in my front yard, came to find out it was a skunk.

Well I don't want to be too forward but.... your lawn could use some de-weeding anyway.

Look for small nuts in the holes. If you find them, your trouble is squirrels.

You need one of those tools that release propane into the tunnels and then ignites it.

Stop shooting your back yard.

Raccoons digging for grubs at night.

Get rid of the grubs and you get rid of the coons.

Get a sack of grub killer and spread it on the lawn––try to do it shortly before a rain.

Dude, they're making a peace offering of firearms. You should encourage them to bring the rest of their kin.

Raccoons... They dig for grubs in the dirt at night.

Get some coyote piss or .22 LR.

Be careful using granular grub killer, I killed a shitload of birds using it a few years ago. I didn't water it in good enough and apparently the birds thought it was tasty. My wife wasn't the least bit pleased over that stunt.

Pour alittle dawn dishwashing soap down a few of the holes and spray the area with a garden hose to confirm if this is mole crickets they'll crawl out of the holes very quickly. We had the same thing happen in our yard we had a shit load of grubs come out of the ground in the morning after treating the lawn with ortho and i believe an armadillo was digging them up still after we had treated the lawn with an Ortho lawn product.

I don't think its moles, as the holes dont go anywhere. just 2-3 inches down then stop. but i've been wrong before. once.

If you had moles, there would be runs , and not just holes. Your feet would sink in them as you walked around the yard. It's hard to tell, from the picture because the grass is pretty high.
But the shit does look like Racoon.
I have no idea what a mole cricket is.

I think it might be crawdads/mugbugs.

Are there little mounds of mud near the holes?

Some hornets make holes in the ground - but I think you would know about that.

I highly doubt regular squirrels. Ground squirrels usually make their holes hidden - not in the open.

eta - I thought that poop was mud... might be moles then.
Link Posted: 9/19/2009 6:39:35 PM EST
from your description, it sounds like skunks, or raccoons. Both leave holes in ground like in pics while digging for worms, grubs, crickets, beetles, etc....

Either way, you are going to have to set up a night ambush.

There are no tunnels, and the holes are dug, that much is obvious.

I have the same thing, it's skunks digging for grubs.

Can't really shoot them even though I have a suppressor, I don't have a 100% clear backstop. Don't want to trap them because I don't want to catch one. They ebb and flow with the owl population.

ETA FUCK Post 4000, at least it wasn't a total waste like some stupid meme reply.
