I use State Farm. They have been great to me. Of course, this is Wisconsin, where deer hunting is (well, was before CWD) the state family tradition.

What a misleading and inflammatory thread title. NO NO NO! It is not that the bearing of arms that got the homeowner uninsured. It was the fact that he had a gun range on his property where he and his family discharge firearms. RIF

Gee, when I was a kid my whole family, mom included, used to shoot the .22 in the backyard on Saturdays or Sunday afternoon at cans or a cardboard target. Of course we had twenty acres. I'm sure that makes all the difference in the world.[rolleyes]

DNSpy6 is right, it's not the Firearms it's the range. I have a 25,000 policy with State Farm. Covering only my weapons. They have each item and serial # if applicable.

State Farm has given their agents the option at the agent’s discretion to cancel homeowners policies on people that own firearms. It depends on who your agent is as to the treatment you get.

That is why malpractice insurance is so damn expensive--and I bet State Farm doesn't even deal in it. BTW even in California, State Farm insures my firearms. Not to mention my house, belongings, car and truck.

If this is the one I've seen around before, it's probably several years old. From what I remember state farm doesn't have an issue with you having a range on your property. What they do have an issue with is when you turn it into a business - even a small business. Which, if this is the same story, is what the guy was doing, even though the story conveniently doesn't mention it. Business insurance and homeowners insurance are two different things. If an agent doesn't carry business insurance, that doesn't mean they're anti-gun, it just means you need to seek another agent or insurer who does cover businesses and firing ranges. I don't state farm deserves the rap for being anti-gun on this. If you want to stay away from state farm, do so because they have bad service and high rates, which is the reason I swtiched from them.
