Looks like almost no magnification.
Link Posted: 11/18/2012 12:47:52 PM EST
Magnification looks a little weak, LOL.
Link Posted: 11/18/2012 12:49:23 PM EST
is that not a RPG optic?
Link Posted: 11/18/2012 12:49:36 PM EST
looks like a video game....I have never seen that before...maybe it is real
Link Posted: 11/18/2012 12:50:57 PM EST
Looks kinda fake IMO.
Link Posted: 11/18/2012 12:54:43 PM EST
I can't figure out what the crap around the crosshairs is supposed to be.

It sort-of looks like this halo reticle (as in halo, the video game).

I just buzzed through the Standard Reticle Pattern Book and saw nothing like it.

That's what flashes red if you get a 'hit'
Link Posted: 11/18/2012 1:02:38 PM EST
A busy reticle that doesn't range or compute width or height. Fake.

from the photo essay the Atlantic published recently of the syrian civil war. there was a thread about it a while back, gimme a min to find it.

edit:
there ya go, bottom of the article, someone ID'd the reticle in the original thread where this was posted.

Fuckin' tag.
Link Posted: 11/18/2012 1:06:22 PM EST
Looks broken to me.
Link Posted: 11/18/2012 1:08:11 PM EST
Doesn't look like a sniper rifle to me. Maybe a PKM or Dshka?
Link Posted: 11/18/2012 1:15:17 PM EST
Is it me or does it look too far to the left in relation to the barrel?

I read through all that and did not find any explanation. Could you post the relevant bits; I'd actually rather like to know what the heck scope the original shot is from!

So, you couldn't cut & paste it? Did it occur to you that others might make comments and bury the Id?

Anyone?
Link Posted: 11/19/2012 9:14:19 AM EST
Gamer movie reticle
Link Posted: 11/19/2012 9:23:38 AM EST
I haven't seen that in any game, ever. Probably just a shop, and LOL at the magnification.

Here is a bigger version.

Only reference I see (indirectly) in the comments is a mention that some of the shots looks like "Call of Duty". Nothing specific to the reticle I can find.

He was talking about someone posting the link to the gallery of photos here on ar15 and someone in THAT thread IDed the reticle.

I have never seen anything like that. I would not want a white reticle though.

http://www.scmp.com/sites/default/files/galleries/2012/11/05/1.jpg

Looks like a ground picture of Sandy aftermath in the background, those buildings are distinctly western.

The whole thing looks like a photoshop.

The aliasing on the wire going through the reticle also gives it away.
Link Posted: 11/19/2012 9:59:39 AM EST
Photoshop.
Link Posted: 11/19/2012 10:09:19 AM EST
Fake it looks like.

Why the "pattern" is there I have no idea. Seems like it wouldn't have any benefit whatsoever.

Link Posted: 11/19/2012 10:20:12 AM EST
well where is this other thread that has an ID?

It was ID'd in the last thread as a newer "PSOP."

I'm not sure of that, but that was what's posted.

Here's a few other photos from the same photographer that came out around the same time. (Yes, I realize the FSB clearly doesn't belong to the FAL or bolt gun).

Loopholes they are doing it wrong.

It's a Barska. That's the Call of Duty edition.

I suppose it could be used to measure angles, as it is broken at 45 degree increments.

I'm about the farthest thing from an operator, but I can't think of a reason you'd need the angle of something to compute range or windage.

I have a feeling this photographer is going to end up like the guy responsible for this

OK. On his site, it looks like he was following a group of rebels around for a few days, at least from Oct 29 to Nov 4 or so. I think this is the gun, based on the front sight and compensator: http://narcisocontreras.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/SYRIA-THE-BATTLE-FOR-ALEPPO-III-2012/G0000kf.CPgQTa2Y/I0000OHFS8zU.f4k

Here's a good photo of the guy's face, and part of the side of the scope:
