Interesting article linked below. With no wild predators to control the deer, rising crop damage is leading local governments to promote hunting. They are not getting much traction out of that, owing to their strict firearms laws and high proportion of urban demographics. From the article, if you were really into hunting you'd be in heaven, no game limits or season in some areas, but you can only have a shotgun.

Wierd item: when trying to introduce venison, alot of people there are not comfortable eating it. Really? From the country that eats deadly poisonous fish, and almost anything else that comes out of the sea, and venison is too unusual? Different strokes I guess.

From the article:
Japan's deer crisis is aggravated by extreme demographic trends: intense urbanization and depopulation of rural areas, record low birthrates and the world's most rapidly aging society. Plus, there's a cultural legacy: Venison isn't a staple of Japanese cuisine, and gun ownership is subject to strict regulation.

Someone loan me a shotgun, and I'll do my part.

I would go hunt their deer, if they provided several Geisha tracker/porters.

I hope the deer conquer them.

They need robot deer you can hunt with laser rifles.
That will get people used to the notion of hunting.
But it will go awry, they'll fuck the robot deer instead.

No Archery? Really Japan?

They need a Zaku to take out the deer population anyway, the only true way to hunt them.

Article says they are trying to make venison more main stream by serving it in school lunches. I read they did the same thing a few years ago with tons of the excess whale meat they had. That did not get alot of takers either. But the article shows how a heavily urbanized culture probably won't be doing too much of traditionally rural sports.

In my area of PA, even with a decent deer population, it can be pretty tough in some areas to get a deer. Imagine being there getting bored by having so many available.

How could they have an out of control deer population with Godzilla running around?

Japanese come here to fish. They should have vacation packages where we go there to hunt.

ArfCom needs to go on a good will mission to Japan to save them from the evil wild deer. Have our Ambassador to Japan inform the Japanese Prime Minister to prepare for us.

Bet they would have more success if they had hunt clubs with rent a guns and guides. Venison is delicious.

If they take care of the transportation, I'm in.

I believe there's a Japanese town (Naguro??) where deer wonder the city's streets and tourists often come to pet and feed them.

I got to shoot a Sika once... Incredible meat. Also got a lot of it. It lasted a looooong time.
Was more red meat than normal venison.

My Japanese friend said it was pronounced "she-ka"
