I've known alot of drug users in my life, people ranging from heroin junkies to simple stoners.  This story takes the cake.  One stoner I used to be best friends with got himself into some trouble.  He cannot remember most of this, but it started with what my friends said and ends with the police report.

During a party [stoner] took two hits of a designer drug and decided to go home.  He ended up driving in a town 30 miles away from his destignation going at 15 mph.  A cop turned his siren on which led to a chase that went from 15-65 mph.  [stoner] decided to jump a fence in his volvo.  His car got stuck on the fence and the officer ran up to his car gun drawn.  [Stoner] swung the car door open knocking the cop on the ground, then [stoner] beat the crap out of the cop and bolted.  When the assualted cop got up, he called for more officers.  [Stoner] was found in a tool shed and came out swinging, beating up another cop till he was subdued and woke up in a hospital.

He's looking at 20 years, all I can say is don't do drugs.

That "stoner" was stupid in the first place.  If you ingest coffee, cigarettes, or drink alcohol, you are already taking drugs.  Nicotine is one of the most addictive, and alcohol can cause everything you described that happened, and is responsible for many thousands of deaths every year.  Some people can take drugs and still be responsible if they do it properly and know their limits, those who don't or can't, shouldn't...

AK Mike, I agree that all drugs can be bad, but I left out an important detail.  The designer drug was a powerful hallucegen (spelling?).  In the case of booze, most people will have lower inhibitions and do some real stupid crap.  Of course usually they can be smart about it and tell themselves to maintain.  In [Stoners] case since he was on a hallucegen, his whole perception was warped and it harder to control yourself when you possibly think cops are giant brains chasing you through medival england.  Not even he can remember what he saw in his warped vision of reality.  So don't attack coffee, smokes and booze here.

All I can say is that in almost 25 years of police work I've never been in a fight with a guy high on Dr Pepper or on a foot pursuit with  someone that ran out of Marlboros, and I have never heard of anyone committing burglary to support his Starbucks habit.

I did however arrest two DWI's last night.

Simple Police training rule. DO NOT put yourself in front of door, as to be knocked into traffic and an easier target.

Mmanwitgun, I understand.  In this case, his mistake was taking something that he was not prepared to handle, in a place that was not appropriate.  If one is going to take a hallucinegen, it should be mild enough, and taken in a place of safety where one cannot hurt themselves or others.  PUBLIC PLACES AND ROADS are NO place to take these things.  I am not attacking coffee, smokes, and booze per se, I am just saying they are ALL drugs, and that's a fact.  As I said, if you know your limits and can take them responsibly, I don't see a problem.  If you go overboard with ANY drug, you are going to have problems.  I know many people who can take hard drugs and not have any problems, they are even productive citizens, but I know normal people who can't take even small amounts of alcohol without having problems.  Your post said not to take drugs, but you didn't say which drugs so that is an attack against them all, including alcohol, one of the most destructive drugs people use everyday.  Those that know their limits and take it properly don't have a problem, those that don't can end up hurt or dead as well as others.  I'm just saying one needs to keep a proper perspective.  Anyone taking an unfamiliar drug or quantity, not knowing the extent of the effect, is asking for trouble, just as what happened to your friend.  Another person taking a more reasonable dose, familiar with the effects, in an environment that would not get him or others hurt - may not have had such a disasterous outcome.  I am sure many people take whatever he took and did not go out onto the roads or go wailing on cops, and such a drug is taken by many, many people, every day of the year.  I am not condoning drugs, I am just saying that if one does, one must do so responsibly as for any drug, whether it be crack, alcohol, prescription, or what have you.

I'm sorry taking drugs or alcohol is not an excuse for criminal behaviour.

Sounds like he had some real tolerante cops for most would have shot his ass.

I hope this is bottom for your friend and that his mind returns to normal - whatever that is.

Drugs don't make you any smarter - and for the smart asses trying to rationalize their weaknesses for taking their dope of choice I'm not talking about caffine, tobbacco, or asprin O.K.?

Been there, done that, got the scars from that monkey carved very deep into my back. 23 years sober and counting thank you and I'm not talking about caffine, tobbacco, or alcohol.

anybody who takes drugs and gets high is an idiot. Your friend was already an idiot, it's not the drugs fault.

I wasn't even going to respond... but...
What a lame ass thread. He wasn’t a ‘stoner’ – he was under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs from the sounds of it—but don’t let trivial details like facts slow you down.
Ever seen alcohol make someone want to fight??? I’m sure cops LOVE to deal with drunks—don’t they?? Do you think most cops would rather go break up a party of 300 people drinking, or 300 people smoking pot???
Ever see alcohol cause a traffic accident?? Oh - what's that?? That's right- it causes HALF the accidents.

And for all you self-righteous hypocrites—Please remember your high school biology lessons- alcohol, tobacco and caffeine are powerful drugs. They just happen to be ‘approved’ by your .gov at this particular moment in time. Caffeine was almost outlawed in the ’20.’s How would you feel if you could only have decaf???
