do people know that they are only a couple hundred from having that same rifle and it be......REAL!?

im sure its fun, but damn.

another airsoft rant, sorry.
i had a rant a few weeks ago, i'll try and channel my anger next time.

perhaps i should just get one and see what the hype is.

They're all usually made of plastic, and parts that they say are "interchangable" are usually cheapo plastic, but not always.
As for $1200, I paid $900 for my REAL steel.
Besides, mommy and daddy would let little jimmy have a BB gun, but not a Real gun.
Try getting one of those pump airsofts for $99 in the back of SGN, I don't know how I could enjoy a $1200 BBgun more than a $99 one.
They are a hoot though. But damn! $1200?!?!?!

Airsoft is fun for around the house/backyard.

I picked up the Glock 18c, was really fun to shoot so I bought another one for the hell of it.   The Mac-10 is also a good one.

$1200 for a toy?  Thats pissing money away. Better to invest the money in a real rifle.

Yes, but you can't shoot at your friends with it (and have them shoot at you), and then come home.  As for the price, that's on the upper end, and at that price, everything that it metal on a real M4 is metal on that one.

Some nice ones:

Tell me about it!

A couple months back I was at a gunshow, and one dealer had some very real looking airsoft guns.  It was funny watching the people looking at them, thinking they were the real deal.  They had a pegboard wall with various guns hanging from it, and a P90 replica got my attention right away.  The shine on the brass cartridges in the magazine didn't look right, and that's what gave it away.

Airsoft for playing war games is cool.  But paying $1200 for an AEG is downright ridiculous.  $300 gets a regular AEG, I love mine (a TM Colt M733...)  Still painful since I got several of my real guns for that or under, but as someone pointed out I can't shoot at friends and have them shoot back with the real thing (without some obviously glaring problems...)

Before I got into real guns, I was playing with a bunch of those break open pellet rifles...
My favorite one was made by crosman/winchester, and it would shoot at 1000fps! That was a big deal back then hehehe...

But back on topic, the people that spend that kind of money on airsoft are usually people who can't buy the real deal. For example the sheeple of japan. That could be also the reason why japan seems to make the best airsofts out there. I for one will someday buy a P90 airsoft, since you can't buy the real deal....

As with any hobby, the amount of money you put into it is determined on how serious you are into it.  I know guys with thousands invested in paintball gear, and even a couple that have a couple thousand in Magic cards.  It's not hard  to do.  The average game console jockey probably has spent a fortune in games.  And I've seen gamers and card players freak out when I mention spending a $1000 or more on a precision rifle!  Personally, if I had $1200 burning a hole in my pocket, it sure isn't going to be spent on a gun that doesn't throw lead.

It usually done incrementally as well.  Very, very few people spend $1200 on an airsoft gun.  Most people will buy the "stock" gun for $300, then buy a metal kit for it a few months down the road ($100-250), then buy internal upgrades to make it shoot further/more accurately, and then buy accessories for it, etc...  They do it incrementally and it adds up.  I will confess that I (at one time) had an airsoft gun worth about $1200, but it was a very rare (classic) one that was no longer made.  I sold it and made a 20% profit.
