I still have in my hot little hands the magazine that got me started building these things... it is all your fault.
"SWAT Magazine Presents
AR-15 / M-16
'America's Assualt Rifle'"
Vol 1, No 1 1986
Some GREAT articles in here.
Some nice history artiles, one on barrel twist by Jim Sullivan himself, a howto on building your own CAR-15, and the one that gave me Black Rifle Disease, "Build Your Own AR-15" by Nolan Wilson.
The Wilson article had a step by step, with pictures, of how to assemble an AR-15, sources for parts, etc.
Also, an excellent article ".223 Performance: A Search for The Truth" by Chad Haire. This guy went out and got windshields, old car bodies, etc, and did some real shooting (not typewriter shooting) with various types of .223 ammo and reported on performance.
John Norrell (as in the www.molyresin.com) had an article about rewelding old M16 receivers, refinishing them, and making new M16's from them. This is where I first heard of his Moly Resin finish.
How about a reprint and a few more to add? I don't remember ever seeing a No 2 in the series.
No, this was a special issue, it looked like the beginning of a new series that never happened. It was a whole issue dedicated to the AR-15/M16 only. Across the top in small letters it said
S.W.A.T. Magazine Presents
W AR-15 / M-16
A America's Assault Rifle
It was not the regular monthly issue of SWAT, but a special publication BY SWAT magazine.
Rich, sent you a pdf of cover and a few pages.
Maybe it is time for a Vol 1, No.2 in this series.
Yes, thank you very much! I owe you one.
