This is on a German auction site.

This auction is for a "General Motors" M16 (not a Colt or other type) in almost mint condition form the 1960s, This collectors item was sold by the Vietnamese Government in Hanoi to a Dutch businessman who was an importer in the 90s. Clearly this was taken in battle during the war or simply left behind by the Americans. General Motors M16s were not used after the war, maybe a few were sent to Israel or somewhere else but I haven't seen one in the six years of my looking. This can be a "one of a kind". I've fired it twice and it functions perfectly. The cost in USA for a Colt (under Cat 3 class arms not an AR15) would bring six to ten thousand dollars. This would surely bring twenty thousand but import to the USA is not possible.

Why does it look like a tiny gun sitting on a table mat?

Judging by that statement I would think it is not deactivated. ISTR that mil style weapons were at some point heavily regulated, but IIRC, there was some loosening of the regs recently.

"Dutch businessman?" I wonder if it was Hank Venck. There's an interview with him in the latest Small Arms Review. Interesting guy. Arrested b the Nazis for partisan activity, sentenced to death, and pardoned by Hitler himself.

General Motors M16s were not used after Vietnam? It has to be left behind or captured from the cowardly war-mongering Americans? No way it could have been ARVN aid and captured after the fall? The upper loks shiney...that's near mint? Typical internet auction BS.

My first issue M 16 in 1985 was made by "General Motors, Hydromatics Division."

Mine from 1979 to 1982 was a Hydramatics division, General Motors M16A1.  I used it after the war.

From what I understand, Machine guns are technically legal in Germany but there are other things make ownership impossible. Never actually see any for sale.

They are also legal (and actually owned)in other countries around Europe. Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and some others.

They also sell deact M16s in Germany, but they are few and far between.. Most are either from Israel, or Chinese CQs. A few start out as grey market exported ARs.
