MONTPELIER, VT. — As states open insurance marketplaces amid uncertainty about whether they’re a solution for health care, Vermont is eyeing a bigger goal, one that more fully embraces a government-funded model.

The state has a planned 2017 launch of the nation’s first universal health care system, a sort of modified Medicare-for-all that has long been a dream for many liberals.

"cost controls"

"set number of patients"

What could possibly go wrong. How much federal funding will support this mess?

The state population will double with old people. New motto should be live free and die.

Will the US Government eventually look at the "successful" VT model in future years like they did with the system in MA during the ACA debate?

That's what I'm thinking. Assuming it works, that is.

Probably.

Of course, they will also conveniently overlook the fact that Vermont's population is rather small, wealthy and, ahem, non-diverse.

To try and project Vermont's success (for lack of a better term) with this system onto California, New York, Illinois, etc. will be farcical at best.

I thought Vermont was relatively free, for the Northeast.  Guess that list of free states is shrinking to NH and Maine.  I predict once healthcare is "free" in VT you get a ton of old refugees from NY, NJ, CT, etc who will vote the solid D ticket.  And we know where that leads.

No kidding. Then the next thing you know, they'll be sending a self-described Socialist to the Senate.

They're also aging.  I bet their sparse children and incoming immigrants will appreciate picking up the tab enough that "America's Great Leap Forward" will be just around the corner from universal health care.

That too is by design- evil begets evil.
