Just wanted everyone to know that it happened tonight and FreeRepublic says CNN is quiet! What about the oil? General Says Venezuela's Chavez Out of Power April 11, 2002 11:00 PM ET By Pascal Fletcher CARACAS, Venezuela (Reuters) - A Venezuelan general said on Thursday that President Hugo Chavez's government had "abandoned its functions" and the South American country was under the control of the armed forces. National Guard Gen. Alberto Camacho Kairuz made the announcement on local television after senior military officers blamed the president for violence during a huge anti-Chavez protest march in which at least 10 people were killed. "All of the country is under the control of the national armed forces," Camacho said. "The government has abandoned its functions," he added. Camacho, accompanied by other officers, said he did know exactly where Chavez was, but he made a public call for a group of armored cars around the Miraflores presidential palace to withdraw. The violence erupted in the world's fourth-biggest oil exporter after half a million Venezuelans clamoring for Chavez to resign after three years in power had marched to the presidential palace in the capital Caracas earlier on Thursday. In addition to the deaths, more than 80 were injured when violence and shooting erupted during the protest march. "Ten people are dead," Caracas mayor Alfredo Pena told local television. The shooting broke out as Chavez was giving a broadcast, carried on all national television and radio channels, in which he criticized as "irresponsible" and "subversive" an indefinite general strike called by business and labor opponents who organized the march.... The oil is fine. "The powers that be" that ran the oil monopoly were aginst Chavez, that's part of the reason for the huge protests today. That son of a whore Marxist-in-sheeps-clothing Chavez had his loyalist fire into the unarmed crowd killing 12. Now he's on his way to Cuba where that other POS Castro will give him asylum. Sad for the deaths today but in the long run this is better for Venezuela & also removes a thorn in our side too.

CNN has the story, MSNBC has better coverage. My question is why is Drudge so quiet? He's usually on top of things like this. This is huge news but of course buried b/c the neverending crap in the mid-east is on...

I hope they hang that no good commi thief Chavez. Better yet, they ought to put an ice pick in his skull, just like Trotsky. [kill] Give it time guys. The media is ALWAYS slow when it comes to anything involving South American affairs. themao [chainsawkill]

Does anyone have a take on the stability of the oil situation there now that this has happened? I am very curious as to how some of these events turn out. It is very interesting that we are seeing oil "situations" on opposite sides of the world at the same time. Input would be greatly appreciated. They're an unattractive lot, those two, aren't they...

I've been following the turn of events down there over the week. If he really did order his supporters to fire on the protesters (shopkeepers, oil workers, etc) then it's very sad he's back. His base is the communist slum dwellers and the guy is no democrat having attempted a coup back in '92. Looking at a picture of him in a red sweatsuit/unifrom (commie red) made me think he was some gang leader and not the president of a country. He says he's going to forgive and blah blah blah, while at the same time his VP is saying everyone will be tried for treason. It's like a real life version of West End's game of 'Junta'. They had some nice photos on yahoo of guardsmen with their FALs and some other unit equiped with Uzis.

DAMMIT! THAT FRIGGIN GODLESS PUNK! How dare he hold up a cross! Anyway, looks like the Venezuluans are going to sell themselves out to serfdom. Chavez is another Castro wannabe. survivalforum: Don't worry about the oil. Even if Chavez gets worse than he already is, the crook will be willing to sell you all the barrels of oil you want. He needs the $$$ to stay in power (hence, leverage over the slaves that elected him). themao [chainsawkill]

Now here's an interesting take on what happened. This guy wrote a book about CIA interventions. I still don't like Chavez, but it wouldn't suprise me if the CIA didn't have a hand in this crap. http://www.counterpunch.org/blum0414.html themao [chainsawkill]

Those silly, silly South Americans. Chavez glorified the infamous Venezuelan terrorist who was known as "Carlos" and called for his parole from the life sentence "Carlos" is serving in a France jail. He trades oil to Cuba in exchange for "sports" assistance. WTF? Meanwhile, he does all he can to support OPEC and artificial high oil prices. President Bush and Crew has Chavez in their sites. Bet on it. Chavez is the #1 enemy of America in the Western hemisphere.

I still want to know about how this change in events is going to effect the oil supply and prices... It doesn't matter if it is true or not, but if Chavez thinks the CIA had their hand in trying to oust him....won't he seek revenge? Via oil? I don't know...just curious.
