OK..another thread about what stuff one carries in their pockets got me thinking. I don't carry a lot of stuff because I don't like a lot of weight. But, when you have to use the head and drop trou, what do you do with your CCW piece? I try to keep it in my IWB and not let it *clunk* on the floor or show it to people who have a view under the stall door. I have heard of folks unholstering their firearm and putting it on the tank top or back of the toilet.

What do you folks do?

(Never thought I would be asking people about their bathroom habits..)

Keep mine in my left hand waiting for toilet ninjas!!!
Seriously though, I keep it in the underwear or on top of the head.

I just hold my pants right at my knees, but still having the pistol vertical to the floor.  Seems to work so far.  At home, though, it goes on the counter by the sink before I sit.

For God's sake, do not put your pistol somewhere where you might leave it accidentally, like on top of the toilet.  There are at least three folks on here who have confessed to that, and I remember reading about an air marshal that did that.  Also, if it's up on the tank behind you you don't have it immediately available.

I keep it where it belongs -- in my holster.  I don't worry about somebody jacking it or looking under the stall and seeing I'm carrying.  If I felt paranoid, I'd put it inside my pants so it was less visible / accessible.

Holy Recycled Topic Batman!!!!!

Sorry, BTDT on Arfcom.

The last thread I remember about this had a technique called the "BVD Hammock" that a lot of people seemd to think was a good idea. If you can't leave it holstered like I do in my VMII, place it next to your skid mark. Pretty much guaranteed you won't forget it and if you have to deal with a bathroom mugger it doesn't get much more accessible than that.

I posted this exact question about three years ago. I dont usually make poopy away from home but if you gotta, you gotta.

Put it in your underwear.

when you drop your pants, as you sit, pull the holster between your ankles. that way, no one will be able to see a holster or a carry piece. you don't take anything off, jsut kind of shift your pants a bit.

When I absolutely have no option but to drop a deuce in public I take the gun out of the holster, and place it on the back of the tank so nobody sees it under the door. If there is no back of the tank I hold it. Don't really see too many other options seens how I carry OWB. I don't think I could walk out of a bathroom, and not realize I forgot my gun. I do believe I would notice the weight difference.

Loosen your belt then retighten and fasten it when you get your pants down. Press your knees out to pressure the belt and it will sit there while you do your thing.

Put it in my arm pit like it would be if it was in a shoulder holster. Works everytime.

My dad told me a story recently about this happening where he works.  One of his (female) co workers came out of the bathroom with a glock she had found in there, and turned it in at the front desk (they work in a state building).  It wasn't too long before a corrections officer came looking for it.

The one time I've had to go in public while carrying, this is what I did. Worked well.

Would you want someone to reach under and grab it?  Then they might want you to keep the trou down...

Always maintain positive control of your weapon.

I don't understand why people say this, but it's said a lot.

I'm trying to picture somebody getting down on the floor, seeing I have a gun, reaching into my stall (and up) and pulling my gun out of its holster before I can react.  I'm taking a shit, not a nap.  It sounds like a bunch of BS to me, but I'm wrong more often than I'm right.

And if the fear is "that type" of person, I damn sure don't want the gun to be on the tank behind me, because clearly I'm dealing with a hostile party.  I'd want to be able to get at my gun in a hurry.

And regarding them seeing my gun -- is it that much better for them to see I have an empty holster, know that I'm armed, yet I've disarmed myself by putting the gun on the toilet tank where I can't reach it?  If somebody is going to look under the stall from my right, they're going to know I have a gun, either by seeing it or the holster.

Hell, if somebody is doing that type of shit, what do I do about them looking over the stall and seeing that I'm armed?  They could plainly see the gun on top of the tank or sitting in my panties.  Maybe it's just me, but I don't have much of a problem with guys trying to watch me take a shit.  Maybe I've let myself go too far.

Ever wonder why "Fish" on "Barney Miller" was the only one on the show that wore a shoulder holster? He was ALWAYS going to the head.
Stay safe

Use a good clip on IWB and put it in you pocket before you drop your drawers.  This works ok with a snubby or small auto.  If your CCW is a full size this won't work.  Ted Blocker makes a good clip on IWB.

I just leave it on the sink counter so I'll see it when I wash my hands.  I'm sure no one would take it!

Keep it in your hand.  You need zero hands to go, and only one to wipe.  That leaves at least one free at all times.

I take the gun out of its holster and hold it on my lap. Ya never know. Some yahoo may decide to barge in a mug you. If I was a mugger that would be the best time. The guy has his pants down and very little option of resisting or defense. When it come time to wipe, I tfr the gun from left to right hand. Wipe, repeat till clean. Flush. Tfr gun to the right hand. Return to holster. Lift up pants and zip up.

Nice play-by-play.

I like to play with my pistol while I'm on the throne. I practice presentation, reloading, dry-firing, twirling it around my finger...

One of the reasons I like pocket carry.  One only needs to be careful when letting the trousers down so it doesn't fall ouot.  For IWB, maybe a GOOD holster with double loops at the 4 oclock position would be safe, as long as one held on to the belt to keep it from slipping back.  I still like the pocket.

Carrying in a fanny pack is not tacticool, though it does allow you to unbuckle it and sling it over your shoulder for bathroom necessities.

One can also easily remove it & leave it in the car while at work.

In all cases, the gun remains concealed.
