Using Gun Rights Haters Own Research Against Them

Easy to do with Robert Muggah, among many things the coauthor of “We Need Better Data for a Serious Gun Control Debate”, an article in which he advocates gun control despite the fact that he claims there isn't enough good data on the subject to even have a debate about it. A tad bias, wouldn't you agree? Could that be why gun rights advocates don't want such people doing research on crime and violence? But I digress, on October 8, 2014 he gave a talk at TEDGlobal 2014: South! in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil titled “How To Protect Fast-Growing Cities From Failing”

You cant reason with these chuckleheads . They're willfully ignorant of the overwhelming stats and examples that are presented to us all , almost daily .

Just follow the constitution . Our Country's Founding Fathers were not stupid and the Constitution and Bill of Rights are some of the greatest collections of rules and wisdom , ever assembled on paper .

That doesn't even work; they only believe int he Constitution when it suits them. They're still banging the 'militia' drum. They fixate on that part, while completely ignoring the fact that the 2A specifically says "the people" and "keep and bear".

Perhaps most importantly, if the purpose of the Second Amendment is only to provide for an armed militia, the amendment is totally redundant with the rest of the Constitution, pre-Bill of Rights. The main body of the Constitution provides for the calling up of the militia, the provisioning of the militia and naval forces, etc. If, as the liberals believe, the Second Amendment is only militia-centric there is no need for the Amendment at all.

Oddly, this is not an argument that I've seen anyone put forward in response to that claim by the anti-gun community.

People who just don't know any better are willing to consider new information. The zealots won't. The important task for us is to be able to tell the difference.

With ordinary folks with misinformed opinions, you can just politely inform them. The chuckleheads need to be made an example of for the more sensible people who might be watching, online or in real life. If you can stay cool and play "whack a mole" by smacking down every fallacious argument with facts, inevitably the chuckleheads get petty and spiteful, and end up making asses of themselves. Believe it or not that changes minds.

I tried that once. I remember passing a guy who had some completely made-up statistics stuck to his back window. I don't remember exactly (because I swear I've seen these before, and it's different every time), but it said something like in one year handguns killed 5 people in Canada, 12 in the United Kingdom, ..., blah blah blah, and then 32,000 in the United States. The numbers weren't even remotely believable and a thirty-second Google search showed they were off by orders of magnitude. That's even ignoring the multitude of reasons behind them.

The bottom line is in many cases you can't reason with people that are that ignorant. If somebody is willing to drive around with completely made-up statistics that provide their own confirmation bias, they're probably suffering from some sort of mental illness. You can't fix that.

Based on the arguments of these same retards we should pull the US out of Chicago .
Chicago killings 388. Afghanistan all American deaths 55 , both are 2014 numbers get the US out of Chicago,

Another stat to make them cry 14 of 15 ytd 2015 deaths in Chicago are black on black crime , the 15th is Hispanic , so white people have not killed a single person in Chicago . Come on white people step up your game.

You guys are on to something. The only way to have a militia is to have an individual right to arms. The way to protect that right, in the constitution, is to not give the power to take guns from the people. Too many focus on the right to bear, the focus must also be on the power to disarm. It isn't granted to the feds by the constitution. Matter of fact, the constitution only mentions 1 way for the feds to enforce federal law, call up the state militias. That's it. No FBI, ATF, DEA, ad nauseum. All of them are unconstitutional given the 10A. The constitution calls for a disarmed govt & an armed people.
