My friend and fellow site member in the Army is having a problem with his Torrent while at a school in Missouri and needs to head back home on Wednesday.

All controls on the steering column appear to be inoperative, and the power door locks don't do anything on the door although the windows do work.

Everything appears to be getting power, as the daytime running lights come on and the wipers will work at a medium pace only if you hold the switch a certain way.

Is this a common problem? How should he proceed?

Check fuses.

He pulled the fuses one by one to determine that the fuse for the headlights etc. were in order.

Sounds like a BCM problem.(Imagine that on a GM vehicle)

Try disconnecting the battery for about 30 minutes and do the magic BCM dance.Hopefully this will reset it at least until he gets back home.Good luck.

Probably the Chinese built V-6 POS engine in it.

He ended up taking it to the dealer. I don't know how, but it apparently only had a 3/36K warranty so it will be out of pocket for him. They are thinking the BCM too.
