In 2013, the United Nations announced that the world's agricultural needs can be met with localized organic farms. That's right, we do not need giant monocultures that pour, spray and coat our produce with massive amounts of poisons, only to create mutant pests and weeds while decimating pollinators and harming human health. Don't believe the hype: We do not need genetically modified foods "to feed the world."

From my experience, many of these - how shall we say it - "worker bees" (i.e the GMO salesmen) who spread this propaganda, actually believe conventional tactics are necessary to ensure food security. They've drunk the Kool-Aid and cannot envision another possibility. The changes threaten their very existence.

Organic agriculture, which has gone from a fringe movement to a multibillion industry, IX can IX produce high yields and withstand disaster and duress much better than chemical-reliant crops, according to reports coming out of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement (IFOAM), which held its 18th annual world congress in Istanbul this past October.

Sure you could go back to "organic" farming, but then 40% of the population would have to work on farms.

Yea really, that'd just be horrible.

Why does the UN waste resources on such things?... are these the same clowns that gave a forum to Gentle Michael Brown Inc.?

Gotta be the most worthless, bloated , overreaching organization known to man.

Just think how low unemployment would be Sound like obunghole and the un are working together to find work for all the illegals.

Ridiculous stupidity.

If it were even possible, it would require that the cities be emptied and spread over the globe. The vast majority of the worlds population is focused in urban areas.

Imagine the environmental impact of New York City alone emptied out it's populace into the countryside to grow their own food on 2-5 acre organic plots.

Idiots.

OK, the US should cut off all food aid. Tell the UN to pick up the slack somewhere else.
Link Posted: 11/27/2014 11:31:55 AM EDT
Why not end all farming all together?

Go back to hunting/gathering and living as nomads?
Link Posted: 11/27/2014 11:31:58 AM EDT
Because Africa should set the example for the parts of the world that are actually civilized and which feed the parts that are not.

The UN is a wannabee socialist world government.

If that's true, there's a silverline if that really come to pass.

Small town America might see a resurgence and the large cities that spill FSA everywhere might deflate. With smaller towns the FSA and the politicians that feed on them would have a harder time screwing up the productive population.

Nah, they want to control everything. Only good thing is, they fail miserably at that.

UN reminds me of my Seven year old telling me he is going to play video games until midnight on a school night.

As soon as I tell him he will have no video games for the rest of the month if he doesn't get his ass in bed RIGHT NOW, he forgets about his childish assertions.

Turn off the synthetic fertilizer plants, and half the world's population starves in the next year.

Big gov and big Corp are the same to me today so I'm all for it.
And since the population of NY NY was 7,454,995 in 1940 and people ate I don't see it imploding today if we told wall street to get out of the food business.

I like the idea of having alternate crops and methods in use and development. It could be really bad if we got an infestation we couldn't control and it went after a crop that was grown everywhere. On the other hand I don't think it should be mandated, and I don't think the green/organic farms can meet the promises they're making. If they could do it they wouldn't need legislation to become dominant.

Let me guess. The other part of the plan is that I get to go without so we don't slow the free shipments to tird world countries.
