I've dealt with several unions over the years. There is no negotiating with them, even in the face of them loosing their jobs. Not disparage our union members here but the ones I dealt with had the collective IQ of a brick. They would not listen to reality, they only listen to their union reps.

This. I remember a while back when the Daily News drivers went on Strike (We had one of their printing plants in my town in NJ-go figure) they were Serious assholes all the way around. We tried in the beginning to take it easy on them, it was Winter, they had a little shelter built, a samll fire in a drum to keep warm, and we let them have a little lattitude. VERY simple rules, Stay in the boundaries we had staked out for them, Dont go on the property, and dont block the road. Instead they tossed a couple of dozen homemade caltrops into the road to flatten tires, and sent a couple of goons to follow one truck and beat the kid driving it with a bat and wrote "Scab" on his forehead with a marker. They wanted to play, so we played. They lit their fire, we called the FD who came in and hosed down the whole area. Their little Shelter?? Unsafe building according to the construction dept, had to tear it down. ANY little deviation meant someone got arrested. Made for a LONG Holiday season, but you just cant be nice to some people.
