I think the  57mm cannon ala' LCS and the CWIS is kind of interesting.

Looks like there might be some VLS cells behind the gun, very interesting.

I thought we were getting a 54mm Bofurs - not 57mm cannon? I know the 76mm is going away for good. I know we just got a bunch of PC-170's to use from the Navy - complete with all the gun goodies.

You Coasties keep screwing that up. The PCs we gave you guys are 183 feet long, not 170! And you guys got the best of the lot when we gave up the 2-boat!

Everyone is getting the 57mm, AFAIK. That's the one LCS is getting. Makes sense to standarize.

There was an article in Proceedings a couple of months ago where a USCG O-6 wanted our LCS to be the same ship as this cutter. He had some good points, if we wanted just another frigate. However, our mission requirements for LCS are too different than the mission requirements for the cutter.

What no VLS????

Glad to see there is SOMETHING on the drawing board to replace the worn out ships the USCG has now. Looks like a good design too.

Here are some pics of the construction. The stern launch for the Go-fast boats and the two helo hangers are cool. I was working on a Coast Guard cutter today installing a new radar Doing my two weeks ADT right now

I'm down here in Florida, we were working on a construction tender's Ship Alt, we are switching them over to Furuno and getting rid of the old Raytheon radar system. Local work. I was stationed in the same place I do my reserve drills at for 4 years when I was active duty so I still kinda know all the boats and systems

ETA: No, I'm not working on those new boats dport, just the same old stuff we have had forever

I'd wager the CIWS is a case of 'fitted for but not with' except when sent on deployment to strange places.

The 57mm is built by Bofors. Or at least, designed by it, I'm not sure if someone in America's building it or not.

Nice pics. Only boat I've worked on so far is an RB-HS and I'm prior Army so I have no idea what I'd do with myself on a Cutter lol.......

No enclosed masts seen on most of the new designs, trying to keep cost down?

That is a pretty seriously toothy Coast Guard Cutter.

They're cutters, not destroyers.

When they deploy with a battle group they're targets so the more useful ships can survive.

Ouch! LOL. I thought the enclosed masts also helped keep maintenace and corrision down no?

Looks like a small one (29-cell?) just forward of the bridge, now that I look at it. The WHECs can carry Harpoon, I'd be surprised if their replacements can't.

You're not suggesting Harpoon can be fired from VLS are you?

Probably 32 cells, they started doing away with the VLS crane( 3 cells) on the FLT IIA Burke's.  Kind of looks like a Burke a little. ESSM probably though some Standards would be nice. Can anybody tell if those are super RBOC's on aft of the Bridge wings? I wonder where the Chain guns and 50's will be mounted?
