I jumped off tractor this afternoon, sharp pain in lower back, and can not walk.  i literally just crawled to bathroom to pee, stood up legs are numb and shaky.

Only mild relief is to lay in bed.   as i type this im in bed legs are numb(still movable) and feel very cold

you have nerve compromise based on the symptoms. could be as simple as a spasm, as complex as fractured vertebrae.

I'd be at the hospital. Don't drive yourself.

Ask for fentynal.

Hope you called 911 before posting this.

GO NOW.

Doc is what you need .

You almost certainly herniated a disc, probably badly.

These days lumbar orthoscopic disc surgery is extremely low risk and has a high probability of a good outcome.

You need to get an MRI and consult with a specialist, ASAP.

You need to see a doctor ASAP. You need X-rays done at the minimum and maybe an MRI. This isn't something you can just get off of the Internet.

ER, get somebody to drive you or call EMS.

Don't fuck around with back injuries. I worked 5 months on the LE job with two herniated discs because the county went cheap on my initial treatment, no X Ray or MRI. Now after over 120 injections in my back, a double vertebra fusion operation, then another operation to remove the titanium hardware, I still wake up every morning feeling like Ive been hit by a bus. If they would have seen it sooner, I may still be in the LE career field, instead of in pain 24hrs a day and medicated.

You have herniated discs at L4/L5 and L5/S1, degenerative disc disease that was aggravated by jumping from your tractor without a proper PLF.

Go, don't be stubborn and prideful. Go, please.  If they catch it early enough you may be able to get by with laser surgery, physical therapy, etc vs an invasive operation to remove your trashed discs, replace them with carbon fiber cages full of dead man bone material, gutting you like a deer in the process, requiring you to learn to walk all over again, months and months of physical therapy.

Frickin' go.

Link Posted: 9/8/2013 5:23:50 PM EDT
if only there existed a person you could go to who had years of training on how to diagnose and cure illness

that would be handy

Link Posted: 9/8/2013 5:26:48 PM EDT
Get to the ER.   Get an MRI.

This right here.  If you've fractured a vertebra and you fuck around, you could end up in a wheelchair for the rest of your life.  Ambulance, now.

I've had this, they'll need to do an MRI to see if a disc is bulging or pinched.

You want to ask for a steriodal anti-inflamatory, like methylprednilosone.

ER, RFN.

And don't even think about trying to drive yourself to the hospital.

You need to be flat on your back with paramedics earning their paychecks over you.

Link Posted: 9/8/2013 6:03:19 PM EDT
I'm hoping for your sake its just an annular tear but because of how you got it its probably a herniated disk. Either way, I feel your pain. It sucks.
Link Posted: 9/8/2013 6:08:20 PM EDT
Get a damn MRI and get it fixed.

I'm off work still from a herneated disc surgery from July 22nd.  Had the surgery and feel great now.

Before the surgery I felt paralyzed. Was in the ER two days in a row until they finally did an MRI to properly diagnose it.  Went to a good back surgeon and did the surgery as soon as possible.  I remember crawling around and not being able to stand straight up.  It sucks!  Back surgery fixed me!

No tuff it out. Pain is one thing, could be muscular.
Numbness and weakness is nerve impingement.

Go to ER now.

Don't horse around with all this ER and MD stuff. We are your family and we ask, nay, we demand that you stay here and entertain us at your peril!

Sounds like nothing.  Rub some dirt on it and walk it off.

This!!! The ER will give you a shot to relieve the pain, and send you home to consult with neuro later. Unless the pain is unbearable, call a neuro, get a MRI and get it fixed!

sounds to me like you damaged your SCIATIC nerve.  This is the LARGEST nerve in your body.
Runs down your spinal column, splits at your tail bone, one nerve, each, goes through the buttocks, then
down your leg.
The tingling feeling is a pinched nerve and causes horrific pain.
I have Sciatica and so I know it intimately

ETA: There's no way you've had an MRI and gotten the results already.  Without that you simply can't diagnose what's going on in your back.

No mri. Just a ct scan last night.

I had this happen a few years back while lifting an engine block, my disc shattered and drove a chunk on my syatic (sp) nerve, hurt like hell, unable to stand or lay down without it hurting. had surgery and all is well, still have a partially destroyed disc waiting to fail.........surprised when they said it would be ok. good luck my friend

+1 on the MRI. degenerative disc disease wouldn't account for the numbness either. Go see a neuro and get proper care before you end up pooping yourself or stuck on narcotics the rest of your life

Ugh...  I feel your pain.  I'm 34, and have been a roofing contractor for over 10yrs.  I took off today because my back hurts.  It's a growing list.  Ankle, knees, hips, back, elbow, hands.  The only thing that doesn't hurt is my shoulders.  I'm going to go buy one of those Teeter hang up things today or tomorrow and see if that helps.  I won't even jump off of my tailgate these days.  60 IS gonna suck.
