The UN Decolonization Team just wrote an order for President Soetoro to release Puerto Rico:
http://vivirlatino.com/2009/06/17/un-committee-approves-text-calling-on-us-to-expedite-prs-self-determination.php They want Barry to give back Veiques Island, pay for it's decontamination, release all Puerto Rican political prisoners in Federal prison. They want Puerto Rico stripped from the US. That's 4 million Americans. China has been heading a successful campaign in the UN as it leads the Decolonization Team and in December got 177 countries to vote and pass an order to release all colonies they have listed by 2010 or ELSE. They haven't defined what they will do if they are not released by 2010. The British flipped their finger up and took full control of one of their colonies saying it's leader was corrupt. The US hasn't done that to Guam because Guam is a big political campaign contributor to the Clinton pocket book (Carl Guiterrez)....but you won't ever hear a Guam politician ever utter the word "decolonization" because they know they can get away with corruption as long as that word is never used. Hey did you know President's Soetoro's Supreme Court pick also supports stripping Puerto Rico from the US? Well that should tell us what is going to happen soon eh? Buh bye Puerto Rico. You sucked us dry long enough anyways. Maybe the IRS will move their operations there back to the US so we can get jobs? |

I thought Puerto Rico wanted to become the 51st state? considering it's mostly a welfare money pit..... i agree if they want to go, we let them. |

Puerto Rico isn't a colony. it's a "territory" might as well be. |

ahhh here it is:
www.un.org/Depts/dpi/decolonization/trust2.htm Puerto Rico is listed there. |
......sounds like a splendid idea.......station the UN in Puerto Rico and release them both. Got my vote. anyone second the motion?
Can we get Texas added to the decolonization list, too please?

I know where we can save $22,093,054,016 in tax-payer dollars right now.

I believe it was less than 3yrs ago Puerto Rico had a national referendum on whether to become the 51st state. It was voted down by a majority.
I say cut 'em loose and withdrawl all funding. |
Yeah, you all keep believing that if we cut them loose we won't pay a dime. You keep believing that.
Mr. Obamajad will play the apologist role for us oppressing them and we will still have to pay their welfare, healthcare, and to clean up vieques island. |

In free elections the Puerto Rican People have always voted to maintain the status quo as it is beneficial for them for tax purposes and still allows them the full benefits of U.S. Citizenship. Puerto Rico is the wealthiest Island in the Caribbean. But perhaps China will now renounce its goal of adding Taiwan as a colony of its own as well. The only purpose served by the U.N. is to act as a cash cow for the City of New York. |

PR is kinda funny, its very 3rd worldish in the rural areas, but then you get on the highway and its like you're back in america (since all their signs and crap are to our standards) except rural roads are pretty narrow.
I spent 2 weeks on the sleepy side of PR staying at a friend's house, people there are very laid back, its kinda funny how the local language is spanish but a lot of products & signs are in english. Its a nice place to visit (excluding downtown San Juan) and its nice to know that you're still on *American* soil if something bad happens. Though I agree, its gotta be a money pit, a lot of their economy is tourism, not much natural resources on an island like that. When you take a poor populous like that and apply US standards, I bet they're all eligible for food stamps. |
Do they mean PR as in the Island of Puerto Rico or PR as in the Bronx?
Okay, as a Native New Yorker (Washington Heights, Manhattan), I want the UN to de-colonize the upper westside of OUR city, by moving your headquarters and drunk doper diplomats to some other host country that you think is better than our "capitalist hellhole"!
So, does this mean that the Chinese will release Tibet at the same time?

Can we have the CSA added to the list as well? After all the citizens of the states that seceded voted overwhelmingly for independence, formed their own government under a legally binding constitution and then were forced into the United States 4 years later at gun point. In fact, the CSA has a better claim to colonization status than Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico has never been a sovereign state and was in fact a colony of Spain before it was acquired by the US in the Spanish-American war. Since then, on multiple occasions, Puerto Rico has been afforded the opportunity to go it's own way in multiple plebiscites (an opportunity by the way never afforded to the Southern states). The time frames aren't even that far about so you can't really say it's ancient history if you say one complaint is valid so is the other.
Let Puerto Rico go, if they want. We can apportion them their share of the National Debt per capita when they go as well. (if this is not done, sounds like a good precedent for the South when it has finally had enough again). |
Cut em loose, then the Dominican Republic and Haiti can point and say "HA HA"

No doubt forieng aid packages will continue to flow, but those are MUCH easier to get rid of down the road. |
Ok so lets say we don't give up Puerto Rico what is this "or else" the UN is talking about?
Let them go. It would be a great place to vacation if it weren't for the American minimum wage.
Okay I'm confused.... so PR has repeatedly voted to stay a territory so they can soak us. I get it, I'd prolly vote that way too if I were there.... So why the hell did the U.N. stick it's fat fuckin' nose into it? If they actually wanted to split and made public noise about it I don't think anyone would stop them. Oh and that "pay to cleanup the islands" bullshit... Let's let the U.N. pay for that |

PR is not an territory. It is a self governing commonwealth like the Northern Mariana Islands.

Does that mean that all the Puerto Ricans would have to renounce their US citizenship?
Would all them who reside in the US have to leave or apply for visas? For some reason I have a feeling that the UN would prefer that they retain their US citizenship and continue to receive all the benefits that go along with it. However, I bet they would no longer be subject to US taxation. Basically they would go from a welfare territory to a welfare nation. Strange stuff, this is the first I have ever heard of this.... |

I thought Puerto Rico wanted to become the 51st state? Actually, every time they have a referendum, Puerto Ricans reject both statehood and independence. |

Stop paying welfare benefits to Puerto Ricans?
Sounds like a good plan. |
I don't really mind if we do it, but I'm pissed that the UN thinks they can tell us what to do with our own territories.
