Yeah Yeah Yeah I know Bono is a liberal douche etc but it is still one of the greatest albums of the 80's as well as all time.

In my opinion, their pinnacle album before Bono's fall into ego and libtard activism.

Their last good album. It,War and Boy are great.

Unlike most activists he is willing to work with anyone, including Jesse Helms and contrary to US liberals praised Bush's efforts in Africa rather than ignoring them. You won't find an American liberal doing that.

"but it is still one of the greatest albums of the 80's as well as all time"

They are a good band and I loved their album War. The Joshua Tree was a great album of the 80's.....of all time is really, really pushing it.

Agree, up there with The Clash "London Calling" and The Cure "Disintegration".

Great album, but of all time? No.

I remember being a junior in high school in 1983, the only music I listened to was classic rock -- the Who, Zeppelin, etc.  at my part time job one day I heard this song on the radio, a friend told me it was by this band called U2.  I took a big chance and bought War on vinyl.  took it home, put it on my crappy little stereo and dropped the needle on side one. listened to it through, picked up the needle, put it back on track 1.  played it through, picked up the needle and did it again.  never heard an album that good before or since.

My goal is to win the lottery and then go to Ireland and influence one of their elections.....  Fuck Bono.  Great musician, but a POS for a person.

Great album.  I like everything from U2 from Boy to Achtung Baby (with the exepition of Rattle and Hum).

They've put out a couple of good songs, but mostly a lot of crap since 1991.

They're my generation's Rolling Stones, two decades of good music (, in the Stones case the 60's and 70's; U2 80s and 90's) followed by decades of unrelenting embarrassment/irrelevance.

Agreed-what the hell is it about success that causes most "artists" to go full retard?

1991's Achtung Baby might be even better than The Joshua Tree. It's that good.

1993's Zooropa was OK. There were a few filler songs, but overall the album was pretty good.

1997's Pop was a complete letdown. Aside from one or two songs, it didn't have anything of redeeming value.

2000's All that you can't leave behind was very good. U2 went back to their musical style from the '80s and it worked very well.

2004's How to dismantle an atomic bomb might even be slightly better than Behind.

2009's No line on the horizon didn't do anything for me. In fact, I simply don't "get" the music on this album. Big step back from the previous two offerings.

He was always an activist and had that rep in the 1980's. I started paying attention to them after Unforgettable Fire, which was in '84 I think.  I was in high school in the 80's and some people even back then thought he was "too preachy".

Basically it was Live Aid, anti-apartheid type stuff.  Don't know if he was an activist anti-nuke peacenik (but he probably was), though I do think he was a commie apologist.  (Based on lyrics to "Seconds", "Refugee", "Bullet the Blue Sky" etc.)
