WTF?  Why didn't they GTFO of the car instead of calling 911 and waiting to drown.
Pics at link.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2376834/Amy-Stiner-dies-Pregnant-woman-friend-accidentally-drive-boat-ramp-ocean-DROWN-minutes-rescued-hiking-mountaintop.html
A pregnant woman and her female
friend drowned on Tuesday night when they accidentally drove down a boat
ramp into the ocean just minutes after they got lost hiking but were
rescued by an off-duty firefighter.

Mother-of-one
Melissa Moyer, 38, a teacher from Sunbury, Pennsylvania, was visiting
long-time friend Amy Stiner, 37, who was five months pregnant, in
Machias, Maine when the two women went hiking at Roque Bluff State Park
but got lost in the midst of a heavy downpour.

Moyer
called for help as it was getting dark and the friends were no doubt
relieved when nearby landowner and member of Sunrise Search &
Rescue, Wayne Hansom, found them and dropped them at Stiner's 2001 blue Dodge minivan.

But as they left the parking area at
around 9 p.m., Stiner took a right turn instead of the left turn that
would have taken them back to town, and accidentally drove through the
heavy fog down a boat ramp and into the ocean. The pair and their dog
drowned in the submerged vehicle.

There was a thread on this yesterday.  My understanding is that they were also driving too fast for the conditions in fog when they went into the ocean.

In summary, they kept competing for the Darwin Award until they won it.

I searched for woman, drown and pregnant.  Anyway, none of that explains why at least one of them didn't open the friggin' door or window and GTFO of the car instead of calling 911 and waiting to drown.

Dennis Miller said the same thing about certain Katrina victims.

In so many words: even rats will flee rising water.

Dupe, but they were also rescued after being lost in the woods for a while, that same day. Pretty sad if you ask me. But I do wonder how people wind up in these situations. Guess some people go about their daily lives thinking "It can never happen to me". I see people driving like shit in bad weather all the time. "Der I grew up in dem Kansas rainstorms, I can handle that der California rain any day. Skiiiiiiiiiiiirt crash, flip, boom".

California has a lot of transplants from other states that think they are bad ass because of how shitty the weather is in their state, not realizing we get fucked up weather too. Darwinism at it's finest.
