VAN WERT — Two concealed carry instructors who released students more than two hours short of the mandatory 12-hour requirement were sentenced to 30 days jail Monday. Forest Gordon, 49, was sentenced on the charge of attempted complicity in falsification to obtain a concealed handgun license, a fifth-degree felony. Dain Stauffer, 37, of Cairo, was sentenced on the charge of falsification, a first-degree misdemeanor. *Snip* Gordon is the former Ottawa and Kalida police chief who was convicted of two felonies in 2010 and sentenced to a year in prison, only to have the charges of two counts of theft in office overturned on appeal. Not the first time instructors have made the news in Ohio for cutting classes short. Gordon's been in the news here for a long time too and ultimately lost his gun rights for a couple of hours of his time. |

Putting people in jail for not meeting requirements that shouldn't be necessary in the first place. Gotta love when the state doubles down on stupid. |

I guess high school English teachers need jail time for shorting students on their First Amendment training.

View Quote Yup, ridiculous law that was followed by ridiculous prosecution. The only carry permit you should need is the Second Amendment. I'm so sick of a government that is hostile to its own citizens through these social engineering victimless crimes. |

Is there another "crime" that is as vigilantly prosecuted as that of anything to do with firearms?
The .gov will burn you to the ground quicker if you fail to cross a 't' or dot an 'i' with guns, but will let murderers, child molesters and drug dealers walk. Time after time. |

How many felons were jailed for failed background checks this year?

Had a local guy cutting his classes short. All of his students for years back were notified that they needed to go through the class with a different instructor or their CWP would be revoked.

That's going to happen when you have 7hrs of material but are mandated to have a 12 hour course.

I would have given them a double feature of "Heat" and then "Collateral" to finish out the class. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Ah, Lima. A place so fucked up, they had to have 2 Walmarts to contain the crazy.

Harsh, but then again they knew the rules going into the game. Being a crybaby after getting busted doesn't gain sympathy from me

They are probably going to reduce the hours by law soon, which makes this situation even dumber. The 12 hour requirement was a load of garbage to begin with, nothing more than a deterrent for people who don't have the time to set aside just to be able to exercise their rights. |

I wonder if the above had something to do with it. The prosecutor was pissed that the guy won the appeal on those charges and Gordon was such a genius he decided to break the law again giving the prosecutor a chance to drive it up his ass. |

I would bet on it, he got the former chief hook up from a judge and that stuck in the prosecutor's craw, so they went looking for anything to burn him on. |

That's what they get for not having a Gun vs Weapon debate. That's a good 2 hours of fussing right there.

Not sure how i feel about this. A good instructor can definitely fill 12 hours with useful and topical information.

Does this mean that everybody that took their CCW course will have their permits revoked because of improper training ?
Not trying to stir shit, but something similar happened here and everybody that took the training had to retake the course on their own dime because their certificates were deemed useless and voided. |

Maybe I burn up time and make extra money during the range time by hustling the class members on the dueling tree. |

I was so hung over in my class. My inductor gave me shit for two missed shots after I gave up. One raged hole and two fuck this shit.

Ending class 2hrs early? Lol, there's a big name in Licking County who only does a 4hr class

View Quote It happened here although the Sheriff (who shoots USPSA with my club sometimes) had his department firearms instructor set up free (but mandatory) correct courses so the students would maintain their certification. I can't find a news story now but the instructor got caught when a student went to the courthouse the day of the class to get licensed. A clerk realized there was no way the class could be completed if the guy was there to get his license. Instructor was doing an 8 hour class in two hours. Felony is absurd. Misdemeanor with a $250 fine and loss of whatever credentials to teach classes seems more in line.
