Does anyone know how to get in touch with Walter Brend, the knife maker? I have a #2 fighter that I would like to get refurbished.

Thanks in advance!

Beautiful knife.  I have one as well.

If you don't mind, how much did you pay?

I can pull his address from my knife book, but it might be outdated.  Somewhere in South Carolina.  Worth a stamp to try though.

I'll find it later and post it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'd appreciate that info.
I bought the knife from Mr. Brend in '84 or '85 for a couple of hundred dollars. He was up here in Fayetteville, NC visiting a local knife shop (the Black Dragon, now defunct).  I believe that he was just getting into knife making as a profession. You are correct, I believe, in that he's from SC. He used to label his blades with the Confederate flag, though I'm not sure he still does.
Nice fellow and makes a nice knife. Mine is phosphated into a black finish with black micarta scales. I've carried it at work since I bought it and it shows. It's even been cammied with paint at times.

Time for a refurb (if he'll do it!)

Thanks again,
Paul

At that price, he must have been a novice!

I was lucky to get mine for $600.00.

Look at what they're getting now:

Over there, they are sold as soon as they arrive.  Time to get on that 2-3 year waiting list.

Here's mine with the Alleycat.  If I ever see the model with the "saw teeth" on the top, consider it sold.

Try Mike Kyle at http://www.tactical-knives.com/.  They have a new knife company called Cutters.  I'm sure Mike can take care of you.

Guys, thanks for the info.

U_N_1846, My knife does have the saw teeth. Is this a rare configuration?  It also doesn't have the flag, just "Brend" in italics by the cross guard. Is it collectable? What's it worth?

Here's a photo. Do you think it wise to get it refurbed or will that hurt the collecting value?

"Saw teeth" must be the early models.  I've never seen the "saw teeth" version for sale before.  Only pics in a book.

I would say all Walter Brend made knives are collectable.  They are definitely one of the most desirable in the knife biz.

By my estimates, I would say the knife is in the $600- $800.00 range depending on wear.  Is your's serial numbered?

I've noticed on knife sites people can sell their used Model 2's in good condition for $800.00!

I wouldn't get it refinished unless it was done by the master himself.  Of course that could take a long while.

There's also a mirror polished version of the Model 2.
